The Galloway's - Random Speculation

In the well established journalistic tradition of the now infamous Gloria Galloway of the Globe & Mail, I have slapped together some pieces of truth, added my own speculation, and come up with a whopper of a story...

I did some digging on the Elections Canada website, and ran a donations search on the last name "Galloway". I came up with a consistent Liberal Party of Canada donor named "David A. Galloway". Now, I will be very careful here, and I make no confirmed accusations of any kind whatsoever, as Mr. Galloway is the former CEO of the Torstar Corporation, CEO of the Bank of Montreal, and is presently on the Board of Directors at the Hospital for Sick Children. He is also a well recognized donor to several Universities and charitable causes. I do not want to mess with this distinguished gentleman.

I've noticed in the publicly available records from Elections Canada that he has donated over $2400 to the Liberal Party of Canada over the last 10 years, and he lives in Toronto. In reading his BMO bio, it says "Mr. Galloway is married with two children and lives in Toronto." Now, in further digging, I've discovered that his wife's name is July; I thought maybe it was Gloria, but, alas, it is not. I did however notice that he has two children, and I have not been able to determine their gender, or their names.

I've also noticed that Gloria Galloway is in the media. Interesting... so was David. How old is Gloria? I can't find any bio info on her anywhere. So, could she be one of the kids? Or a cousin? Maybe a sister or niece? Therefore, could she be using her post in the media to espouse her family dedication to the Liberal Party of Canada?

Again... just wild, random speculation. However, no better or worse than Gloria's recent journalist endeavours.

(NOTE: This is all, really, just wild speculation... don't expect me to defend it if it's inaccurate! Just hope it puts a smile on everyone's face, as this little piece of truth and fiction is meant to be humourous, nothing more)

OPIRG-UofT loves George Galloway

Wow, the more I find out about these OPIRG guys, the more I want to shine a few million candles worth of daylight on their antics.

First it was the UofG's rigging of the OPIRG-Guelph nominations... then the attempt at Queen's to remove a Tory from their ASM. Now, it's the UofT's turn.

The OPIRG over at the U of T are mounting an effort (including the standard "disinformation", to be polite) to protest the denial of entry to Canada of British MP George "Hamas" Galloway.

Sorry guys, but first of all, it wasn't Kenney who made the call, it was the buracrats. Kenney DOES have to power to overturn that call, but he isn't, and for that I'm glad... because Canada does not support those who support terrorists.

Hamas is a banned organization in Canada, and Galloway is a known supporter and fundraiser for them. Hamas supports the continued use of terror, therefore, if you support Hamas, and are intending to attend fundraisers while here in Canada, why on earth would you think we'd let him in?

I wonder how the student body of U of T feels about their monies being used to support a terrorist supporter... doesn't matter how you feel about Israel, the fact that Hamas is a terrorist organization, and is directly responsible for killing people, is beyond dispute.

Humm, U of T student fees being used to support those who support murderers... wonder how they feel about that. Brought to you by the OPIRG-Toronto.

And when it comes to the OPIRG, I'm just getting warmed up... the e-mails are starting to come in.

Gloria Galloway Watch IX

Been a LONG time since I posted anything about Globe reporter Gloria Galloway. I recall a while back, it seemed that every story she wrote had a strong anti-Conservative bias to them. Well, it seems that chip has finally fallen off her shoulder, because I've come across an article by her today that is a great example of "telling it like it is"... as opposed to "spinning it like it ain't".

I suppose it could just be that with the Liberals doing as horribly as they are, there's just no way she can spin things in their favour without losing all journalistic credibility whatsoever!

Liberals lose ground with House in session
Canadians liked Grits better when Parliament was prorogued: poll
Gloria Galloway - Ottawa

Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff did much complaining about prorogation, but Canadians seem to like his party better when it is not in the House of Commons.

Conventional wisdom says sitting governments – Stephen Harper’s Conservatives in this case – lose ground when Parliament is sitting and the opposition has a daily chance to rip verbal holes through their policies. But Mr. Ignatieff has been turning conventional wisdom on its head.

Gloria Watch IV

Well, I've been watching Gloria Galloway's stuff from the Globe & Mail over the last year and a half now. She's running about 70%/30%... 70% negative about the Federal Tories, and about 30% being either neutral or positive.

So, rather than just complaining once again about the kind of article she writes, I'm going to start keeping score... this post is about the fourth recorded instance I can find in my blog about Gloria's writting. Keep your eyes peeled for future "Gloria Watch" posts, and maybe we'll finally start to convince the nay-sayers. (that being those who don't believe that bias in the MSM exists)

Here's today's contribution... globeandmail.com: Long-time Tory angrily quits party over trusts. You be the judge.

And now, for your ongoing viewing pleasure, here is the "Official Gloria Galloway vs. Federal Tory Scoreboard"!

The GG Scoreboard:
Negative - 5
Positive/Netural - 2

(current scores are based on my recollection of her past stories, and a quick review/averaging this morning of her articles posted online at the Globe & Mail)

Stephen Taylor Outs Gloria Galloway

Or, more accurately, a reader of his blog outed the fact that the Globe & Mail's Gloria Galloway, Tory-smearer extrodinare, is in fact married to a former Liberal Minister's communications guy.

No wonder she's written so many smear pieces against Mr. Harper... remember the whole "anonymous senior Conservative organizer says Harper will never be Prime Minister" fiasco? (which turned out to be Carol "who's she?" Jamieson)

I wonder if people will now finally stop and take even just a moment to consider the idea that she might be biased... rather than just dismissing the accusation right off the bat? Just read her work people, THEN decide.

My Letter to the Globe & Mail

I encourage you to do the same. Here's my message sent to them today:

I have been reading several stories by Gloria Galloway this week, and I am shocked by the lack of credible source information upon which she builds her stories.

Who is Gloria Galloway? I've been searching online and I can't find any info on her. Could you provide some details about who she is? Also, her "investigative" reporting has been extremely biased this week... could you comment on this? I am very disappointed in the lack of truth and perpetuation of falsehood that has been characterizing her reporting of late.

Now, true, if there is a major breakup of the Conservative Party, that would be news. However, she is using the dissent of 4-6 people, and making it sound like half the Party want Harper out. How on earth does one come to such conclusions? There is just as much, if not more, bickering in the Liberal Party, and that is much more public. (re: Warren Kinsella, etc.) Yet Gloria keeps harping on Harper.

Is this journalism? Or does she have a biased and hidden agenda to perpetuate the myth?

I look forward to your response. You may reply via e-mail or online at "http://canadaconservative.blogspot.com", where a copy of this letter will be posted.

And the reply when I hit "submit":

Thank You!

Gloria Galloway Watch VIII

Been a while since I did an update, so I thought I'd throw in my two cents on Gloria's coverage of the Chuck Cadman bribe accusations, in the Globe & Mail, and on CTV Newsnet.

I think she actually reported things very well... fairly, accurately, and in a balanced manner. With a story that could obviously be very explosive, I think she covered it just like a reporter should... well.

Gloria Galloway Watch VII

Gloria strikes again!

A big story happens about a 19+ year veteran Liberal MP, a guy who was recruited by John Turner, and the second floor crosser to have served in Paul Martin's Cabinet, joining Stephen Harper's Conservative Party, and how does Gloria headline it?

"Liberal dissident denies Harper bought his loyalty". Come on Gloria... taking a biased pot-shot at Mr. Harper, instead of covering the news... how about "Veteran Liberal MP Joins Tories", or "Longtime Liberal Turfed by Dion Joins Tories", or "Harper wins another disillusioned Liberal MP", or "Liberal recruited by John Turner joins Conservatives".

Nope... you had to take the low road. Instead of just reporting the news, you had to score a blow against the Conservatives. Well, you scored alright... another point on the "Gloria Watch" scoreboard...

Paul Wells: "Off Probation"

To be honest, I'm not a big reader of the various "big guns" of Canadian political commentary, like Paul Wells, Andrew Coyne, Katie O'Malley, Gloria Galloway, etc. I just really don't have much time, and I prefer to form my own opinions anyway.

That being said, last night I happened across Paul Wells post at Macleans.ca, entitled "Off Probation", where he pretty much mocked Michael Ignatieff for talking alot without saying anything, and pointed out that Iggy has backed himself into a bit of a corner... "Now here’s the thing about probation. It is a daily state of binary possibility: Pass-fail. If I’m the opposition leader and I have Put The Government On Probation, then every day I do not announce the government’s failure is an endorsement." Then after calling him the "Paper tiger" that he is, he concludes with this ZINGER of a line... "That’s how Michael Ignatieff messes with you until he’s done."

Give his post a read for yourself... and I love the pic he used for it...

Off probation

Wow, does Michael Ignatieff ever talk a lot when he has nothing to say. There he is on the TV as I type, taking his tenth or 15th question in a scrum in Montreal, jousting with reporters, a strained smile on his face because they keep asking him the same thing and how many different ways can he say he hasn’t made a decision yet? Not a lot of different ways, it turns out, and yet he won’t back away from the microphone. So he’s having to say them again and again. And it’s making him testy. But he won’t stop. So he repeats himself. And then the reporters do. And still he won’t walk away.

There. He finally stopped. He’s gonna read the thing tonight and make a decision. Except all week I’ve been hearing from Liberals about their vacation plans. Those plans don’t involve door-knocking and debate prep. So if this whole election thing is still a live option, somebody forgot to tell the party.

Let us strain past the limits of this town’s attention span to recall a few simple things. The reason Stephen Harper was in Cambridge today was to update the country on the status of budget implementation. Excellent idea! Whose was it? Michael Ignatieff’s. The Prime Minister didn’t mention that, and yet it was really not long ago — the end of January — that Ignatieff cooked up this whole “probation” scheme. He’d vote for the budget, but he didn’t have to like it. In return the feds would have to report in March and June and December. There’s even a website. So you know it was a serious deal.

Now here’s the thing about probation. It is a daily state of binary possibility: Pass-fail. If I’m the opposition leader and I have Put The Government On Probation, then every day I do not announce the government’s failure is an endorsement. Tomorrow Michael Ignatieff will find a microphone somewhere and announce, at extravagant length, that he is endorsing the government again. The NDP and Bloc will announce they were ready to vote yet again to bring this government down, but yet again the Liberals have chickened out. It’ll all work out precisely as Ignatieff designed it to.

I now believe the opposition parties will not get their act together to vote the government down until after it delivers its next full budget. Of course that’s the worst possible time from the opposition’s point of view, because a budget is a chance to spend $200 billion: it’s the moment of maximum strength for any government.

But there’s always a reason not to make a decision. Was it 10 days ago the opposition parties, led by the Liberals, were demanding the finance minister be fired because he’d dug a $50 billion deficit? Stephen Harper ignored them. They did nothing in response. Paper tigers. Now they will wait until the recovery is in full swing and force an election on a good-news budget. That’s how Michael Ignatieff messes with you until he’s done.

Gloria Galloway Watch VI

Another story by Gloria... this one, about the so-called "Tory Playbook". Although the subject matter makes the story decidedly negative towards the Tories, it's not to bad in terms of balance.

TODAY'S UPDATED GLORIA WATCH SCORES:
Negative - 6
Positive/Netural - 3 (+1)

But seriously, come on... it's not a manual on disrupting Parliament, it's a playbook on how to deal with an Opposition that seems to think it's the Government. Hey guys, news flash... if you don't like how we're doing things, it's your perogative to pull the House down and go to the polls.

"Carol? Is that you?"

Carol Jamieson, is that you saying nice things about Mr. Harper?
"Honestly, I haven't seen him do anything yet that I disagree with," said one long-time senior Tory who supported another candidate in the party's leadership race and who last year voiced serious reservations about Mr. Harper's prospects.

"Everything I have seen so far makes a lot of sense to me. I'm asking why didn't we do it sooner. I think even Toronto is warming up to him. It's funny how it shifted from 'scary, scary, scary' to 'he's doing a good job.'"
From Gloria Galloway in today's Globe and Mail.

Gloria... I like what I see

Gloria Galloway has written again... however, this article seems more even balanced than her previous works. It is middle of the road, reporting the facts, and leaving it up to the reader to decide where they stand on the information presented.

She states the facts of the platforms, gives some pros and cons, even criticism about one or two points... valid ones at that.

Like I said before, I'm not expecting her to bend over backwards... just state the facts. I think a good job has been done here.

MSM - Inventing their own stories

Did you ever watch James Bond in "Tomorrow Never Dies"? Yes indeed, the media DOES invent their own stories. The headlines today prove it.

This most recent hub-bub about Carol Jamieson (who, prior to this, was virtually unknown) and her open letter to Tory supporters everywhere is a prime example. In it, she calls for Stephen Harper to step down, saying that "he's dreaming" about moving into 24 Sussex.

This story was created, start to finish, by the Globe & Mail's Gloria Galloway; it's a self fullfilling prophecy of a Conservative Party implosion, orchastrated by someone in the media. First, four low level Tories in Quebec make a stink, and Gloria picks up on it. She adds to it some questionable material about candiates resigning in the GTA, (as for one candidate, it was 100% UNTRUE, he was still running) and makes another of story out of it.

She then uses these things as a base for another story about a "mass revolt" in the Tory party, in which she quotes an anonymous Tory "insider", who turned out to be an area organizer named Carol Jamieson. It gets some media coverage, so, for reasons known only to her, Carol decides to write a posion pen letter, and single handedly attempts to scuttle the Party by openly calling for Harper's resignation, (or execution) which then gets, of course, mass media attention.

Now, where did this all start again? Oh yea, four guys in Quebec, making their voices heard. Nothing big, I rolled my eyes, but that was it. But then Gloria, the Liberal media spokesperson, goes to a former Belinda cheerleader, Carol, to try digging for more. Makes sense... when you know someone is cranky about how things have gone, go to them for more dirt to keep the snowball building. I wonder... did she offer any resistance to her interogator? Did she even realize that she'd been duped by the enemy?

You have to remember... Carol is the one who helped to give us Belinda Stronach. Do we REALLY want her advice on the Party Leadership? That's smart thinking... last time, she not only picked a dud, but she picked the horse who decided to run the track IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. And in all that she's done, she claims it was for the good of the Party. Hummm... where did I hear that one before? Oh yea, I think Belinda said something like that at her turncoat press conference.

You know what's good for the Party? Fewer destructive people, and more people who will take what they percieve as a bad situation, and make it better. KILLING THE LEADER RIGHT BEFORE AN ELECTION IS NOT THE WAY TO DO IT! If she was any kind of political organizer worth her salt, SHE'D KNOW WE'RE LIKELY GOING INTO A FALL ELECTION! Why on earth would she give the media this kind of a frenzy to feed on? She must have known there would be no chance for us to win if she pulled this stunt... so why did she do it?

It can't be for the good of the Party... because she's just taken us four steps back. The Liberals are starting their chant... "Four more years!" Thanks a lot Carol.

UPDATE: A really good post on this is at Stephen Taylor's website.

Gloria Strikes Again!!!

What is going on over at the Globe? Talk about a vendeta! Who's the one with the Hidden Agenda? Gloria Galloway, card carring Conservative-Basher, is publishing more tripe! Read this story carefully... HAS SHE IN FACT UNCOVERED MORE DISSENT? No, in fact, she's just repeating what she's already said, and using that as the foundation for this new article!

Contact the Globe, and ask for answers. They are perpetuating the myth of a split Party with NO EVIDENCE!!! There is JUST AS MUCH STRIFE in the Liberal Party of Canada (enter the Chretienites like Warren Kinsella), but Gloria has convinently and consistantly missed this fact!

GLORIA, when will you start giving us some REAL journalism? How about the latest Liberal scandal, the TPC fiasco at Industry Canada? If she dug into and blew the lid off that story, she'd prove that she's a truely unbiased journalist. But then again, that wouldn't fall in line with her hidden Liberal agenda, now would it?
