    Hey CC,

I'm surprised you've been so quiet thus far on this Emerson issue. Surely people of faith, no matter what political stripe they wear, cannot categorize this as anything but a democratic shell-game. Or, more plainly, a gross deception of the Vancouver electorate.

Even the most staunch Harper supporters cannot possibly stand quietly by while such a blatant breach of political good faith is excercised on the Canadian people.

I'm surprised you haven't read up on the issue more.
Here are Harpers comments about floor-crossing

"I know that many members of Parliament have put forward various proposals that would restrict the right of MPs to cross the floor, force elections, or whatever. I haven't seen one yet that convinces me that it would create anything other than a situation where party leaders have even more power over the individual members of Parliament. "

Harper has enough integrity that he does respects the right of an elected official to cross the floor. The people voted for Emmerson and as we saw with Belinda and Scott Brison, the people stuck with the person regardless of the party. That's democracy. Giving more power to local MP's.

    20,000 people on a ctv poll don't think a by-election is necessary

People of faith must consider this a gross deception? You're kidding, right?

It is a part of our system that individual members can cross the floor, and it is a good thing for a number of reasons. It is also something that happens with a certain amount of regularity. People of faith understand this.

If Harper can be faulted, it is for getting too upset when Belinda did the same thing, and also seeking Emerson's support. I personally would not have sought out Mr Emerson, but that is a personal choice and not one built upon Christian morality.

I hear what you folks are saying, but...

The issue is not floor-crossing itself. Members need to have that freedom to effectively represent the interests of the constituents in the House.

The issue is that he crossed the floor before the new gov't had even been sworn in. The issue is that Emerson won a substantial mandate two weeks earlier to represent his riding...as a Liberal! The issue is that mere weeks ago Emerson was slamming a potential Harper gov't for "letting the weak die." He got elected at least in part on the strength of his opposition to Harper and Tories.

No matter how well intended Mr. Harper and Mr. Emerson may have been. They orchestrated a classic bait and switch. This was a mistake. It is not reflective of the spirit of democracy that founded the Conservative party. And party members, and in fact all Canadians should be holding these leaders to account.

    Just a few questions:(maybe rhetorical)
When is the 'right time' to cross the floor?
How long has Emerson been thinking about 'crossing over'?
How many other Libs are thinking about it?
Why is this being handled so quietly by the MSM?VF
