UofG's OPIRG-Guelph members linked to G20 protest organizers

Well, I'm sure the students at the University of Guelph will be happy to hear that their money may have been used to help organize the destruction and chaos that ensued in Toronto this weekend, as several members of OPIRG Guelph have been arrested and charged in relation to the violence that occurred... and may have even had a hand in organizing it.
TORONTO – Multiple people with Guelph connections were among the hundreds arrested in connection with G20 protests.

Ontario Public Interest Research Group (OPIRG) staffer Mandy Hiscocks, 36, (aka - Amanda Hiscocks) is to appear in court today for a bail hearing. She was arrested Friday and charged with conspiracy to commit indictable mischief. She was among 15 suspects police charged in connection with a crackdown of alleged ringleaders of violent G20 protesting.
Interesting point to consider... perhaps this would not have happened if the folks at OPIRG and Guelph's CSU hadn't conspired to rig the OPIRG elections last year?

It's time to follow the money folks... it's time to demand a full in depth audit of OPIRG Guelph's books, to ensure that no student money was misused to fund these criminal and terrorist acts. It's time to DEMAND that OPIRG Guelph be held accountable for their actions, and that steps are take to ensure that they actually reflect the views and opinions of the student body... instead of the extremist left-wing activist views that were on display this weekend.

If you're looking for answers, I have a good place for you to start... how about questioning one of the external advisors for OPIRG-Guelph, none other than the Guelph NDP's Past President Ravi Joshi? (just to establish his current NPD links, a list of the websites he supports are here)

Caught the CBC radio news on the way home tonite. They had a French organizer saying that she knew of 450 or so folks that left Montreal by bus and there were another 450 or so that came to Toronto on their own, all in search of some stuff to wreck. That's 900 people leaving Montreal headed to Toronto to smash some stuff up. What self-respecting Montrealer could resist such a temptation? I'm surprised there weren't more...

Then the rest of the news was granola protesters saying the police were too tuff on them. Really? Really?? Do these folks even know they had bad people with hoodies and hammers all around them?

May this "lady/person" be charged with an offence and may she never be able to "vacation" in the USA with her grand children. She will forever listen to the NO ENTRY from a border security guard. And she won't be able to fly over USA terrirtory to her hide-a-way in Mexico.

I'm a U of G alum. I liked the school. The highest girl to guy ratio in the country if I'm not mistaken (thanks largely to the Ontario Veterinary College).

This all rings a bell. What is it about Guelph that attracts weirdos? Is it PETA or ARK II?

    Let's burn these creeps.

If I had been in charge, they would have been barricaded in that intersection for a LOT longer, being periodically hosed down by water cannons, just to make sure they don't get too hot.

Um, factual error there, Christian Conservative. The news article you reference doesn't state that OPIRG helped "organize the destruction and chaos that ensued in Toronto." Just that OPIRG staffers were arrested.

But hey, never let the fact get in the way of a good story, right?

Try re-reading the title... I clearly state that "members" were under arrest.

My point still stands... members of OPIRG have been implicated in criminal activity. These members have SIGNIFICANT access to OPIRG-Guelph resources. Suspicion of misuse of funds in OPIRG-Guelph have existed for YEARS, hence the four "conservatives" who ran last year in an effort to bring in some accountability. OPIRG-Guelph members were caught at that time rigging the election to ensure that no examination of their books was undertaken. Now that several members have been caught in criminal activity, a forensic audit should be the VERY LEAST action demanded by the Administration of the University of Guelph.

    Mr. Christian Conservative,

I hope you do not attend the University of Guelph because I myself do and am ashamed that I have paid my hard-earned dollars to fund these terrorist projects in the name of education. I'm not a middle class mama's boy or daddy's girl that gets the trust fund like some of U of G's GTA-born student population, I have to work my butt off 24-30 hours a week during the school year and 40+ hours a week over summers to pay for my education and it's a damned disgrace I have had to fund these goon's little soirees and paths of destrution. To tell you the truth I am not proud to have graduated from the University of Guelph specifically because of it. I majored in English and was apalled at the low-level of faith guelph professor's instill in their own government. Anti-colonial attitudes and beliefs were rammed down my anglo-canadian throat and I felt stigmatized and unwanted because of the colour of my white skin. I have never preached racist or xenopobic attitudes but @ guelph they seem to encourage people of different faiths, races, genders and sexuality to attack the anglo-canadian capitalist structure to the point where every white student seems to be the cause of all problems. I would never send my child to the U of G and am ashamed to be an alumnus. Here, here to public inquiry & audit of opirg's criminal underbelly!

Note to protester's: Having felt stigmatized as a white canadian I did not feel the need to paint some stupid sign, organize a group of people feeling the same way and publicly protest what I felt was wrong. I shut the **** up, dealt with it and moved on like a man should.

Christian Conservative: forgive the language but I tried to star my expletives. :)

Participating in a protest march is not a terrorism, and should never be illegal in a democracy. In a theocracy, yeah I might understand, but this is Canada, not the Christian version of Iran!

The charges will be dropped against all the non-violent protesters.

Those violent few who burned cars, broke windows, and initiated fights deserve to face the full extent of the law.

    Get a grip!

All PIRG chapters in Ontario are audited every year, and the auditors statements are attached to the Chapters annual report released at their AGM. (I believe that is in September) If you are a member of OPIRG Guelph (all U of G undergrads are unless you chose to opted out and received your refund) this is your opportunity to hold the Board Members of OPIRG accountable.

All the article says is that a staffer of OPIRG was arrested. Given the numerous unfounded arrests that occurred last weekend, this in an of itself does not implicate OPIRG as an organization of any fault.

The issue in my opinion is:
    1) Were the charges "conspiracy to commit indictable mischief" based on work that the employee did at work, and were those actions sanctioned by the chapters BoD?

    2) If they were sanctioned by the BoD, how is the BoD going to be held accountable? (Student Union, I am looking in your direction)

    3) Were any of OPIRG funds allocated towards the alleged conspiracy?

    4) Finally will the BoD dismiss the accused employee if convicted.

You think Ravi the Quaker might be a problem? He's one of the most stand up guys Ive ever met. Just because you dont like his politics doesnt mean you should connect the dots in such an obtuse way. Do you think Farbridge should go down too because she was an OPIRG'er too? Wait, on second thought, dont answer that....

As a rule I don`t comment on blogs or other such internet view points

The collective mindset is most troubling
as a christian I would expect more from you
Jesus was in the presence of “bad company” of sinners not the believers.
Don't judge other people or cause them to fall.
Unless we are without blemish, it is hypocrisy to cast the first stone
Don't rob the poor or oppress the afflicted.
The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.

Again, I reiterate the earlier point made: what evidence is there to show OPIRG in any way funded or condoned these activities? I don't agree with their actions personally, but as long as they weren't spending OPIRG money, I see nothing untoward in how they acted. What people do off the clock is their own business.

That's the issue Mac... we DON'T KNOW that the OPIRG folks didn't use student funds to support their illegal activities... no one from OPIRG is talking. The local Guelph Mercury has been trying, but they're not getting any answers... look for some stinging editorials in the near future.

Thanks to this G20 fiasco, OPIRG-Guelph's days are numbered...
