MP Bill Casey resigns

Former Tory MP Bill Casey has resigned his seat to take on a new position on behalf of Nova Scotia, in the Department of Intergovernmental Affairs' Ottawa office .

It was my hope that he would one day rejoin the fold, but perhaps this is for the best. A by-election will be called for the seat within the next six months.

    Department of intergovernmental affairs, eh?

Yeah, because we all know what a great relationship he has with the government in Ottawa.

    Good call guys (sarcasm)

Wonderful news! Now, we, the residents of Cumberland Colchester MV have a shot at having a representative who can play a meaningful role in the future of this country rather than bleating from the sidelines.

Bill was only ever comfortable as an opposition MP who could point an accusing figure at whoever was in power. He didn't mind standing with the government on popular policies but lacked the intestinal fortitude to stand behind them when they were less advantageous to his riding.

I think there will be a general election in the next six months.

I was also hoping Casey would rejoin caucus but will now be interested to see if the CPC can win it back.

Unfortunately I think after this weekend convention, it is possible that the minority governement could fall on any confidence vote that comes up.
