Order of Canada: Honouring a Murderer

The members of the current Order of Canada committee have chosen to give a black eye to all we've previously chosen to hounour, by devaluing the prestige of the Order of Canada, by granting it to a bloodsmeared murderer of the unborn. They ought to be held accountable for this disgrace, and asked to step down. Using their position to push their ideological agenda is despicable, and they should have known better when they had a split decision on whether or not to grant him the distinction... which is now worthless.

Barbara Kay has some good thoughts in today's National Post... "Barbara Kay: Henry Morgentaler does not deserve the Order of Canada"

Here's what I'm hoping for... that someone who's been previously honoured with the Order of Canada will publicly return their medal, and withdraw from the Order.

Who is this group accountable to? From what I understand, it's the Governor General herself. She'll be getting my two cents on this one.

For shame.

NOTICE: Obviously, I'm not going to bother publishing certain vile pro-murder comments on this post, but if you have something of substance to add to the debate, I'll judge it on it's merits.

UPDATE: I've sent off the following letter to Her Excellency, Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, asking her to reconsider the bestowing this honour on this dishonourable man, and that she examine the members of the Nominating Committee, and ask for their resignations. (for those who supported his nomination)

Also sent a letter, and I encourage everyone who opposes this appointment to do so as well... postage not required!

Here's the address, and make sure you properly and respectfully address her as "Your Excellency"

I know this is a touchy subject, and I greatly value your opinions.

I think, most of all, it's unfortunate that the Order of Canada has caused a political polarization and re-enlivened the Abortion debate.

I know you disagree with what this particular awardee has done and been a part of. However, he has gone to great lengths to achieve a goal. He's received countless threats on his life, and has quite possibly saved the lives of many mothers who views are different than ours.

People aren't pro-choice or pro-abortion because they are pro-murder. They simply understand that not all people believe as they do.

There's no definitive answer on when a person graduates to consciousness from being a mere collection of cells. Until then, we can all believe as we will. We have that freedom. To deny someone freedom because of a different set of beliefs isn't really freedom at all. I know this sounds wrong to you, and I understand why it does.

I don't want to over-engage in an abortion debate, but perhaps we could continue a bit.

When should human life be given full human rights?

I know you disagree, but many of us Canadians are extremely proud of Dr. Morgentaler and his dedication to sticking to his guns, even with all the persecution he's encountered, and are happy to see him receive this honour. You don't have to agree, but not all of us have the same beliefs on the subject that you do (and many of us used to, as did I, and changed our minds after thinking it over long and hard).

Face it. One of the biggest reasons Morgentaler was pushing for unlimited access to abortions for all Canadian women was so that his abortion clinics would have more business.

CC, I plan to use your letter (not word for word, of course) and send it off to the Governor General.

When one considers the true meaning of the Order of Canada probably the vast majority of recipients should not receive it, if you would be so kind as to consider my article at the following link you would be illuminated as to my assertion:
