"The Morgan Six"

Don Martin from the National Post has some choice words for the MP's involved in the Morgan fiasco.

"The Morgan Six" is what David Asper is calling them. (subscription required)

They are: Raymond Bonin (Liberal); Joe Volpe (Liberal); Omar Alghabra (Liberal); Caroline St. Hilaire (Bloc); Louise Thibault (Bloc); Peggy Nash (NDP).

Don't let them forget it.

Martin's column was mostly on target, although I think Asper wrote a better one today. Unfortunately, he was probably right that Harper may have blunted the impact of the incident by his reaction.

Where he really misses the target is in his comment on "ethnic gang warfare" in Parkdale-High Park. I live in the riding and I cannot think of a single incident that fits this description. Sure, there are some crack related problems in the Parkdale neighbourhood, but nothing gang related. This gratuituous piece of misinformation almost undercuts his argument against Nash.

I also take Nash to task in a post today. There is no need to stretch the truth to do it.

Why wouldn't I link to it? I'm not such a Harper-mainiac that I can't take someone else's opinion of the guy.

    Don't get me wrong though... I am a Harper-mainiac... ;-)

The Star has the entire Morgan Dec7/05 speech to the FI on its site. Two things become clear reading the speech:

    1. Gwyn Morgan is not afraid to state his views.
    2. Gwyn Morgan is politically tone deaf.

On point 1, Morgan needs to meet with and talk to a diverse group of people so that he would not say stupid things like "..best and brightest from Sask. move to Alberta", and other assorted gems.

On point 2, this is a common affliction for corporate CEOs not used to having their views challenged (this includes the Asper brothers, incidentally). It is hard to believe, but his comments on immigrants were the least offensive parts of the speech. He also had choice words for unions, Quebec separatists, etc etc.

Not SMART. I am sure PM Harper is a bit relieved that he will not have to worry about muzzling Gwyn Morgan.

I would disqualify Morgan on point 2, but not on point 1. The Committee's behavior was inexcusable, although I do not disagree with their verdict.

    Harper should nominate Ed Broadbent.

So can I assume that Peggy Nash will demand the Toronto Police axe their "Asian Gang Unit" .

    Sounds Racist to me .

The Committee was more focussed on abusing their position than dealing with facts.
That collection of asshats belongs on the opposition backbenches.
Or better yet booted out by the constituents of their ridings in the NEXT election.
    Bring it on!
