"La Motion ADOPTE"
Okay, so my french sucks... BUT THE AFGHAN MISSION HAS BEEN EXTENDED INTO 2009, by a vote in the House of Commons tonight of 149 to 145. This is GOOD NEWS for Canada.
I noticed a few things during tonight's vote. The Right. Hon. Paul Martin was absent, as were a number of other Liberals. And about 25 supported the motion. My guess is the Liberals did a count during caucus today, and left themselves a few votes short on purpose.
A few noteables who voted in FAVOUR of the motion... Bill Graham, who I have a new respect for tonight. Having been the former Minister of Defence, he couldn't well vote against it, but he had the guts to stand in favour of it. Good for him. Also, leadership contenders Scott Brison and Michael Ignatieff supported it as well. Good for them, I respect them for it.
My MP, however, did not support it. She can expect a call from me tomorrow.

I don't mean to insult you or anything, but it really seems like you call your MP a lot. Are you guys on a first name basis? :P

Respect? For Bill Graham? Why?
Bill Graham had little choice, as former defence minister he knows why Canaidan forces are there, he sent them there, and he has little grounds to oppose it.
Also, if the Liberals knew that there would be enough support coming from one of the other parties they would have gladly voted against extending the mission. Look how Graham responded to the budget. He and the rest of the Liberal party rejected the budget, without reading it!
This move was a prime example of Harper's strategic mind. By raising this issue now he eliminates it as an election issue. Also, knowing the NDP and Bloc would not support the extension, he removed a weapon from the Liberal attack platform. If the Liberals want to pin Afghanistan on the Conservatives, he can stimply point out that many of them, including leadership candidates voted for extending the mission.
This was a risky move. I hope it pays off, but the Canadian public is often fickle and has weak resolve. What we saw today was real leadership, and political savvy. Will it pay off? Only time will tell.
P.S. I'm pissed at the rejection of Gwynn Morgan. Getting someone with his credentials is a great, but at $1 a year! It takes a lot of stupidity to vote against that! The opposition really got caught with their pants down on this one, looks good on them. Blind partisans.

I'm pretty sure I saw them having an intimate dinner together a few weeks ago. Andrew tenderly held her hand, and tearfully confessed that his fidelity to his wife was the only thing tearing him away from her soothing, passionate and intelligent voice. They embraced, and he wiped the tears out of his eyes, and tearfully bade her good-bye, and they shared a long look at each other as he slowly walked out of the restaurant.
He left her with the bill, though, which is what I most appreciated about it.

You've got it all wrong Blake... I wasn't at the dinner, but for some strange reason, I still ended up with the cheque...
And there's no way Dirk... Brenda is worse...

I found her quite adequate a few weeks ago. But then, I was like her seventh client of the night, so she was all practiced up by then, I suppose.
Andrew:
I don't see the complaint with that. That's the most passionate kiss Paul Martin ever recieved. Dude probably was aroused for three hours after that.
And, I have to give props for this:
"You've got it all wrong Blake... I wasn't at the dinner, but for some strange reason, I still ended up with the cheque..."
ZING! That's what I'm talkin' about.

Blake-
Paul Martin was aroused for three hours after that.. but it was really only because he took one too many viagra.

I'm not feeling the love for that line. Old man/viagra jokes? Far more lame than suggesting he's not getting any at all and a meatbag like Brenda could get him aroused.
Poor performance, sorry, I just can't show any love for that.
