PM Harper... stand-up comic

This is not the first time that our PM has had a good one-liner... get a load of this one... from the Hansard, no less...
Mr. Mark Holland (Ajax—Pickering, Lib.): "Mr. Speaker, the point that the minister misses is very simple. There is a difference between expressing an opinion about the judiciary and launching a personal attack on the independence of Canada's chief justice and to put words in her mouth. There is a huge difference.

Canadians want to know are the comments from the member for Halton and the Prime Minister's close association with the ultra right wing Civitas Society part of their real agenda, an agenda to destroy the independence of our judiciary?"

Right Hon. Stephen Harper (Prime Minister, CPC): Mr. Speaker, I cannot resist answering a question about the vast right wing conspiracy. What I will say is that I will speak to the Minister of National Defence and see if there is any possibility in the budget of a black helicopter, so we can fly the hon. member around to investigate his concerns.
ZING!

h/t Stephen Taylor

Good to see that the Conservatives have reclaimed the moral high ground in Question Period, after years and years and years of screaming about Liberal non-answers to questions.

I agree that the question is not posed to get a meaningful answer as opposed to escalating a war of rhetoric, but the question is not stupid. That Conservative MP should be censured; the Liberals are gladly pointing that fact out, and casting doubt on the ability of your rank-and-file Conservative candidate to conduct him or herself in an objective and considered fashion in daily life.

The response of Harper is in fact a good one, but it's extremely hypocritical. When these guys were sitting on the other side of the floor and they would not get answers to their questions, they would flip out. Remember Darryl Stinson and his little fistfight threat? So why are the Conservatives playing Liberal tactical games now?

Well so far I haven't heard any of the rationale behind Vellacott's comments in any MSM coverage (surprise, surprise)

When you actually read the tone, and content of the Supreme Court Justice's speach (apatly titled "Unwritten Constitutional Principles: What is Going On?") you realize that although, over the top and laced with sarcasm Vellacott's comments may have been right on the money.

Too bad the MSM saw fit to omit this information.

    Blakrod has some excerps posted:

Be that as it may, can we agree - at least - that Vellacott bungled his speech badly? If you're going to call out somebody, at least provide documentation of their error and correct it properly. He deserves a serious spanking at the next caucus meeting.

He was speaking at a Conservative think tank meeting, which was supposed to be strictly off the record.
But yeah I think he could have phrased it more appropriately, and maybe he would have, had he believed himself to be on the record!

Don't you think that since the media have decided to run with this story that they should at least provide some background information and rationale for his remarks? Liberal MP's have made similar comments over the years with little reaction from the media.

"He was speaking at a Conservative think tank meeting, which was supposed to be strictly off the record."

He accosted the media, not the other way around.

"But yeah I think he could have phrased it more appropriately, and maybe he would have, had he believed himself to be on the record!"

    1)
There is no such thing as off the record.

    Sincerely,

    Newt Gingrich's Mom.

    2) As before, the media have been clear, and he has never challenged this, that it was he who approached them, and asked to give a statement.

"Liberal MP's have made similar comments over the years with little reaction from the media."

    1)
    I wish this were true.

    Sincerely,

    Carrolyn Parrish.

    2) Even if this were true, it does not excuse this plank's behaviour. If you know the media's watching you like a hawk, you'd better watch your words 3 times as carefully.

Oh yeah, it should have been "off the record."
How better to hoodwink the masses if all your stuff is "off the record."
Hopefully, the next time he has a mike and spot on him, he'll have his lines rehearsed and just say the party line.
    What a load of doody.
Blame the MSM, no accountability for his own flappin' gums.
It's all the media's fault if he looks and sounds like a complete dork.
Even his Beloved Leader wouldn't back him, in public, on the record.
    Good he's gone.
    On the record.
p.s. He bolted, before he could be booted. That's on the record.
