Of Warren, Rae, and Nazis
Warren Kinsella, my favorite Liberal (Dan McTeauge is a close second) has confirmed the rumours... Liberal leadership candidate, Bob Rae, this weekend at the LPC(O) shin-dig, did indeed liken the Harper/Bush softwood lumber deal to the Chamberlian/Hitler deal, the "Munich Pact", prior to World War II. The question is, who is Bob's pick for the role of Hitler...
And it was Warren that gave this piece of advice sometime last year... "In politics, whenever you liken someone to Hitler or the Nazis, you lose... guarenteed."

AGAIN?!?!
Bill Graham did the same thing a few weeks back during the initial bruhaha about it.
Again, as a Czech-Canadian who's family was uprooted by the horrific betrayal of Munich, I can say that I am outraged that anyone would compare the selling out of a nation by its allies to suffer unspeakable horrors under a ruthless and babaric Nazi regime to an economic agreement between two neighbouring countries.
A poor trade deal just doesn't even compare to Munich.

I like Warren too. He tells it like it is.

Oh yeah, by the way, historically, Czechoslovakia was sold out twice, once by the French and the British to the Nazis, and once by the Americans to the Soviets after WWII.

Does it surprise you though? It's really the only tactic the left has.

Except for, you know, actual interaction and exposing the Conservatives pandering-as-public-policy budget.

Yeah, well even if they had the mental wherewithall, and even if they had any basis in fact, to try and sustain the suggested attempts at "interaction and exposition," the Griftin' Grits would undoubtedly be the last "foxes" on earth listened to, when it came time for Canadians to get some ideas on how best to honestly run a "chicken coop."
Point in fact: When Guite implodes at his trial, and he sees the bars and stripes, and the prospect of becoming 585-lb. Bubba's wife, he'll start doing his canary imitations, and I'm not talking about tap-dancing. That part of the competition is DONE.
He'll sing and he'll snitch to save his crooked butt. He'll implicate a whole bunch of other lily-white Liberal biggies, thugs and underlings.
We hard working Canadians, and our duly elected government of Canada, shall find the bodies, the skeletons, the dirty deals and the stolen billions. The fast-fading LPC will be a long gone and faded memory leaving a bitter tast in the mouths of most Canadians, the honest ones, at least. LPC: Bankrupt morally, long ago; on the verge of financial ruin and inconsequentiality today.

Except nobody will care by then. The old guard of the Liberal Party will be long gone, the public has already had the satisfaction of removing them from power, and Guite's "singing" will be yesterday's news.
And, if your post is any indication, if and when actual debate on the issues breaks out between the two sides, the Conservatives appear to be in for a world of trouble. Focussing on Liberal foibles from 2003-4 is not going to win an election in 2008.

You would think that the Left would be wary of drawing comparisions to Hitler and the Nazi movement considering the fact that Hitler's party was the National Socialist German Workers Party.
He talked a lot about the "people" (volk) too.
Anyway i find it extermely insulting, to my intelligence to draw these types of comparisons. But worse I think is the insult to those who suffered under nazi rule, and those who sacrificed their lives to defeat Hitler's evil empire.
Any comparison to neo-conservatism, George Bush, or Stephen Harper, falls glarringly short of acurate.

Evidently, looking at political discourse around the country, it doesn't seem to hurt. How many people are diligent in avoiding category errors or false analogies in their rhetoric? Hell, just look at a lot of stuff produced by the "Blogging Tories"; if I were a Conservative Party employee (I'm only a member), I'd be embarrassed to admit that half of the writers on this blogroll are actually going to vote for my party.

Gee, let's discriminate against our supporters and only allow certain people to support us. Great idea blake. Maybe 13 more years in opposition is all we need to get rid of the CPC supporters we don't want.

Furthermore, why would you want to be associated with the Blogging Tories considering you obviously opine that "a lot of the stuff produced by Blogging Toroes" is rubbish? If that was my opinion I'd be happier dropping the blogroll membership and joining progressive bloggers, socon squadron, non partisan bloggers.....
just a thought

Who, me? I have no interest in political discourse at this point. There was a time when I cared, but my interest is waning. I did open a political blog for a bit but I think it's going to be deleted very soon.

^^ What Mr. Nowitzki said.
At some point, there has to be a larger principle at stake in political discourse than winning; at some point, you need to stand up and develop intelligent and consciable public policy. For the record, I think Mr. Harper's done a good job of that to date. I think he's taken the Party more to the centre and they're acting like governors, and less like pretenders-to-the-throne.
A lot of Blogging Tories, on the other hand, seem to have missed that memo.
