BMO says Tory MP Shory is NOT being accused of fraud

Lawyers for the Bank of Montreal have clarified their position in their mortgage fraud case, indicating that the lawyers named in the suit, including Tory MP Devinder Shory, are NOT being accused of taking active part in the scheme. They are, however, simply accusing them of not doing their due diligence in dealing with these particular mortgages.
Munaf Mohamed told a hearing the bank accuses the lawyers of negligence, not fraud.

"We do not allege impropriety against any of the lawyers who are named in this action," he said in response to a question from Justice Adele Kent.
That's a BIG difference, my dear Members of the Opposition... so I assume we can look forward to your apologies in the House on Monday?

Guess they should have a press conference and tell CBC this news. After all, they have cherry picked his name from 100 and smeared his name for 3 days on the "NATIONAL".

Yes and if you watched the bimbette on CBC (P&P time slot) interview the 'investigative' journalist in the first half hour you would have thought that the MP was in the thick of this BMO thing and had full knowledge during the 08 election.

It was shameful, disgusting and completely inappropriate, imo. Those people are dangerous @ CBC the way they throw out insinuations without in this case, a real picture.

Did they make allegations behind parliamentary privilege?

Negligence is still pretty bad, and should lead a lot of people to question Shory's suitability to be an MP.

Shory was a lawyer for the BMO and refusedf to act in his client's best interest and refused to deliver his file to BMO. He will be disbarred in disgrace and then will have to pay a judgment. Is this the Conservative cream of the crop?

Building on what Canadian Sense posted... do the people who are 'bad mouthing' Shorey know how dangerous (to their financial health) it is to pick on a lawyer?

Consider... he's a lawyer, he's a public figure who's reputation can be damaged by these news stories, and he's familiar with the law governing slander. And the CBC doesn't have parliamentary privilege to hide behind...

I doubt any member of the commons were the best in their private fields before they were elected. I doubt they were without error or fault. So we have another MP who isn't perfect, so what? Why is it only an issue when its a CPC member?

It is my understanding if the media recycle the comments from testimony in committee, from MPs that made allegation behind parliamentary privilege they are protected.

That is how they can spend weeks writing about nothing but rumours and baseless distortions.

WOW, interesting. The BMO lawyers are doing their due dilligence too, by disclosing the facts of the case instead of by ommission. Keeps BMO outta libel/slander court as well.

    Lawyers, jist bein' lawyers.

Can't say much for the MSM for not back-checking with their lawyers, or those other lawyers elected to the HoC who shoot their mouth's off at a moment's notice.

If it's on TV, it's "public". Sue.

..MP has been named in the lawsuit case as the lawyer for four mortgages.(1 of 100 named)

The bank is yet to serve a statement of claim to the MP....
    ($12-32k estimate on 4 mortgages)

Looks like the "witch hunt" to tag the 120 million is another stretch or sensationalize something really big.

If you bury the details the story can be much more "sexier".

Is this a priority for our tax funded National broadcaster?

I'm just wondering how Anony @ 2:01AM can use the word "refused" twice in his 1st sentence, blatantly tossing around serious allegations, not providing one shred of evidence or link to back up the typical Anony style smear and STILL expect to be taken seriously?

Well I take Anony for something but it's not serious or credible, it's coward.
