MSM catches on to Liberal's "Secret Donation" scandal
The Ottawa Sun is reporting on the latest Liberal fund raising scandal, where they were encouraging and advising their members on how they could donate funds to the Party "anonymously".
As reported here yesterday, Liberal Adam Smith sent out an e-mail to hundreds, potentially thousands of supporters, instructing them on how they can skirt around Elections Canada's donation reporting guidelines, without have their identity disclosed to Elections Canada, or to the Canadian public via the donation disclosure database.
The more things change, the more things stay the same. Liberals and "anonymous" donations... will they never learn?

I know I said this in my previous comment, but I must take issue with the comment about "instructing them on how they can skirt around Election's Canada donation reporting guidelines. The instructions follow the guidelines. Kady O'Malley has updated her blog post to note the error.
From O'Malley's post:
UPDATE: Yikes: it turns out that Adam Smith was absolutely right, and I was thoroughly wrong, at least on the mandatory disclosure and publication of donations under $200. I still think using the word "anonymous" is a bit disingenuous, since the party has to know who you are -- the limit for truly anonymous donations is, in fact, $20 -- but your name only has to be reported to Elections Canada once the amount goes over $200. (That's cumulative, by the way, which means that if you made five "anonymous" donations of $50 each throughout the year, they'd all show up in the annual report.) My apologies to the Liberals for getting it wrong!
And I disagree with O'Malley when she says: "I still think using the word "anonymous" is a bit disingenuous, since the party has to know who you are." Yes. The party does know who you are. The donations are reported to Elections Canada anonymously. But that's exactly what the fundraising letter says. It's there in the quote O'Malley provides: "Political donations under $200 annually are reported to Elections Canada anonymously.

Yes, I am well aware of the fact that their recommendations are "following the rules".
However, my issue is with the Liberals encouraging their supporters on how to keep their donations "secret" from the public... which was the whole point of having donation disclosure laws in the first place!!!
I do think it has the aroma of a brown paper bag...
