Liberals encouraging "secret" donations?
What's this? And the Liberals accuse US of trying to keep things secret. This little "PS" was enclosed at the end of a fund raising e-mail they recently sent out... ironically, immediately after they accuse US of being "deceitful".

Adam SmithExcuse me? Advising their membership on how to "hide" their donations from Elections Canada? What's next, BROWN PAPER BAGS???

The Liberals are quite desperate for money. I expect them to pull out all the stops.

What Kady O'Malley points to is fairly specific. It refers to donations of $20 or less collected anonymously.
Nothing on the page O'Malley links to shows that Adam Smith [the Liberal] was wrong.
Elsewhere the elections Canada website suggests that contributions of $200 or less will not be reported:
Contributions totalling more than $200 made to nomination contestants will be reported and become a matter of public record if the contestant receives contributions of $1,000 or more, or incurs expenses of $1,000 or more. Financial reports include the name and address of each contributor, the total amount, the amount of each contribution and the date it was received. (See midway down the page under the heading: "Disclosure")
Also, I think your brown paper bags analogy is a tad unfair. What is at issue in the donations case is individual privacy regarding a legitimate transaction--not an illegitimate or illegal transaction.
I make purchases all the time that I would not want publicized. I don't think I'd want any of my purchases publicized. Especially around Christmastime, birthdays, etc. But I digress.
I'm sure there are purchases that you would not want publicly available to almost anyone on the planet.
That's not to say that I am against the sorts of disclosure rules we have. I think they are important. But I'd hate to have my name on the internet so that people could make something of how much I contributed to who and when. (Whether it has been legitimate or not, the Conservative party has been known for its attempts to discredit people by association).

Hey Anon, just so you know, I don't publish comments with modifications of blasphemous words either. ;-)

Ultimately liberals have to resort to force. See the article: "Liberal Progressive Muggers."
