Lost in the shuffle, Harper's SUCCESS in human rights
This sorta scuttles the Liberals argument that the Harper government just doesn't care about human rights... buried way in the back pages of the news, the Canadian government has quietly but successfully persuaded the Saudi government NOT to execute a Canadian citizen, and has ordered a new trial.
Look for the Liberals to tout this accomplishment... well, NEVER, since it doesn't advance their agenda to win back power.

Does the Saudi government control their courts? I ask, because the article is very clear that it was the supreme court that over-turned the decision, not the government.
If their courts are like ours, no amount of diplomatic relations will affect the outcome of a court hearing.

Dan McTeaque Liberal foreign affairs critic made the anouncement about the new trial.
Harper had three chances to bring the issue up wth King Addullah but did not.
Again the harper goverment did not help it was the Liberals.
