Ignatieff: "Disgusted" by Canadians?
YIKES... how does Iggy explain away this one?
The end of the clip is poetic justice, really... looks like Iggy was most disgusted by the actions, or inaction, of the Liberal Party of Canada. Wonder how the Chrétienites and the Martinites feel about that? (notice how NOBODY ever refers to themselves as an "Iggyite"?

Little things like this brings the tears to my eyes...simple, yet effective...and in his own words and voice...beautiful and shear elegance

It's a sad state of affairs in Canada that from any party, speaking the truth is either considered a gaffe or used as the basis of an attack add.

yes anon... but it's not an attack ad... it's the words of the current leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, the part responsible for the neglect and current state of our military as the stuarts of Canada for the better part of the majority of Canadians lives in Canada...Liberals cut spending, Liberals rallied against increasing military budgets, Liberals raided our gov't coffers...
It's poetic justice that Iffy stated these things while living in America and talking about Canada from the USA while Canada was under Liberal rule for 13 years

You're a Canadian and I'm continually disgusted with you.

Mr. Ed.
Then you should be happy that there is a liberal leader who now sees the light. He was one of the key architects of the "Responsibility to Protect" doctrine after all.
As well, Harper was also supportive of military budget cuts. The 90s were a tough time economically.
“I do not intend to dispute in any way the need for defence cuts and the need for government spending cuts in general. …I do not share a not in my backyard approach to government spending reductions.”
- Stepehen Harper, Hansard, May 23rd 1995.

Well Jerry, you can rest easy knowing that I DON'T feel the same way about you... you see, we Conservatives can find within our cold and black little hearts the novel ability to agree to disagree.
While you may be "disgusted" with me, I'm not "disgusted" with you. I will continue to do my very best to make this country a better place, even for you. Because I, for one, even love my enemies... though I wouldn't consider you an enemy, of course.

I'm confused. The ad claims that Ignatieff tells "Canadians" that they are "disgusting". But he clearly says "its disgusting".
I guess what I'm saying is that the ad misrepresents what he say, and that perhaps the conservatives should work more on their disingenuous editing.
If, as seems to be the case, Ignatieff is talking about the liberal government's military policy at the time...so what? As you tell Jerry, people can "find...the novel ability to agree to disagree". Surely there are things that the Harper government has done that "disgust" you? Perhaps the Same Sex Marriage issue?
I think the way he dealt with the same sex marriage issue was ingenious. His motion did, after all, show greater support for gay marriage than the original Bill passed into law by the liberals. [Granted, it was only a motion to reopen the issue...]. He can now tell both sides that he gave them what they wanted.
Finally, when it comes to military spending, and attitudes toward the United States, is what Ignatieff said anything different than what Harper has said? (e.g., in March 22, 2003, in the Ottawa citizen, Harper accused the government of "indulging only a juvenile and insecure anti-Americanism". This was while he was making the case for invading Iraq.

Wow. I am truly embarrassed by my spelling and punctuation.
Paragraph 1 - "its" should be "it's"
Paragraph 2 -"say" should be "said"
A more conclusion-y concluding sentence should be added. Something along the lines of asking you what you think (e.g., notwithstanding the ambiguity, if any, about who he is disgusted with, do you disagree with anything Ignatieff said about our military capabilities (at the time) and the complaint about anti-americanism?)
And I meant to ask if you knew where the Ignatieff quotes came from so that I could go through the original speech. Though there is plenty of stuff written/said by Ignatieff in the public domain along the same lines...
But I digress. No doubt more problems exist. I give my comment a C or C+. Thank you for publishing my it, however. In doing so you've reminded me why I don't usually write them.

I am still waiting for the BIG answer from Ignatieff. When asked this a.m. if he would rule out a "coalition", he was very vague about his answer. Most Canadians want to know the straight goods. As it stands, the "unelected coalition" agreement is still a valid document. They would just have to change Dion's name to Ignatieff (Father of the Carbon Tax). After all, he's already signed it. For once, let Canadians hear the truth!! If there is to be a coalition, run your platform on it and dignify Canadians with the choice to vote for it or not!!
If the Liberals do a repeat performance of last year, and spring another "surprise" coalition, they may not lose the confidence of the H of C, but they will have lost the moral authority to govern in Canadians eyes for many years to come.
