Running to Canada?

Just going to let the clip speak for itself... I sorta knew this was going on, but I'm still shocked at how many are heading this way, and who's paying the tab.

I have a severely physically disabled 24 year-old nephew who is unable to walk any distance and is being denied government funding for a power-assisted bi/tricycle to give him a measure of independence. Yet we can provide the kind of measures to keep a family of (almost) four with everything they require to live at no cost to themselves for a year or more. My nephew is Canadian by birth, they are not! How ridiculous!

The day after Christmas and already with the bigotry?

So let me get this straight, Anonymous... I'm an immigrant, who's family legal emigrated to this country on our own dime, who didn't get significant government assistance to do so illegally, and somehow it makes me a "bigot" to point this out?

Well, just for fun over the Christmas break, I'm reading Ann Coulter's book "If Democrats had any brains, they'd be Republicans". And you know you've helped me discover? Folks like you really are idiots.

Talk ABOUT the issue, don't just go throwing around your typical idiotic phrases like "bigot". Find out what it means, and then get back to me with an educated position.

In case you were wondering what my actual view on this issue is, it's quite simple... "No papers, no entry". In cases like this, where it's OBVIOUS that people are just trying to run from the US INS, we should be turning the cars back, plain and simple.

But instead, we're spending TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars to house, clothe, and feed people who are trying to get into this country ILLEGALLY. Actually, if you think about it, for people who have illegally entered TWO countries, first the USA, then Canada. I don't think this is right, and don't think we should be encouraging this activity with financial assistance... do you?

Canadians are moderates, almost by definition. When someone is either too stupid or too scared to debate anything on facts, they throw around words like 'extreme', 'bigot', or 'racist' in order to try to stifle a debate they know they otherwise couldn't win.

I'd rather spend the money giving Mexican immigrants a chance than blowing it on the ridiculous mission in Afghanistan.

As for your own immigrant story, who cares? You had the dime. Lucky you. Many don't and never will.

Judging by the hateful tone of your blog and your comments, I think we're better off with the family on the video you posted than yours.

Is 41:17. The afflicted and needy are seeking water, but there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst. I, the LORD, will answer them Myself, as the God of Israel I will not forsake them.

I think it's fair to say that American attitudes toward the poor-- and perhaps not just in America-- are mostly disdain and fear. They're dangerous and different. Sometimes there's a suspicion that their condition is their own fault, that they're simply lazy or inferior. Other Americans are more kind-hearted, but prefer not to look at the poor too closely; it's depressing, and they're surely not fun people to be with.

These attitudes are a world away from God's attitudes, as described in these verses. Neediness arouses compassion in God-- and action.

We may think: "Of course God loves the poor; he loves everybody." But it's not so simple as that; God's character is presented as a model for our own. If God values the poor, we have to think about what that means for us.

Anon@12:27, thanks for your thoughts. Something to ponder, to be sure.

As for you, Anon@12:21, I rest my case... you're an idiot. Instead of attacking the issue, you continue to attack me and my family, personally.

It's guys like you that allow Ann Coulter to make her living, because you just prove her right time and time again.

You need to really think before you comment.

Mexicans have their own country - it's called "Mexico". The entire third world cannot live in the West (on our dime to boot...).

The fewer perks our government offered... well, EVERYBODY, the less enticing our country would be.

If you want to marginalize the immigration issue, we NEED LESS GOV'T!!!!!!!

It’s funny you make a comment about being not happy about illegal’s, and having your tax dollars spent on them and you’re a racist. Such stereotypical nonsense. When you have no argument, you name call. We’re talking about illegals from Latin America, from all over Asia and Eastern Europe. A huge range of cultures and races. Whatever.

Personally I don’t care what race they are, religion, nationality, etc., etc. And illegal is an illegal.

Follow the proper channels, as a potential immigrant and no problems. I don’t care where you’re from, follow the rules. We work too hard for our money, pay too high of tax, to have it spent this way.

Interesting development, eh? Thanks for posting it. Does Anon 12:27 take the liberty to speak for all "Americans", or just expressing a personal opinion?
I know I don't hold the poor and homeless in disdain or fear, thank you very much. I do look at them as individuals, not as a "class" of persons, and expect them each to make a reasonable effort to care for themselves and be self-reliant to the best of their ability. And also recognize a wide variance in those abilities. But that just might be me.

Back to the thread. What you cousins are seeing is a result of expecting "government" do everything, imo. I find it hard to believe that many modern day Canadians who rely so much on Ottawa for everything could find it within themselves to re-discover the Yukon, if that were to suddenly become necessary. No offense intended, btw.
