Will Dion withdraw the Green Shift in these uncertain economic times?

Anyone thinking about voting Liberal, in these uncertain economic times, better be thinking twice in light of Dion's Green Shift.

With the recent job losses we've been seeing, what do you think is going to happen when companies have to start paying the massive Carbon Tax? What's the first thing businesses ALWAYS do to try and cut costs? That's right... they cut staff, typically their largest single expense. Just ask Ford and GM. Or the just relocate jobs, as in John Deere's case.

So, here's the big question... with all this uncertaintly in the global markets, will Dion do the right thing and "Shelve the Shift"?

Or, perhaps has he quietly shelved it already? Do you notice how none of them are talking about it much anymore? Bet they were hoping you wouldn't.

And while we're on that note... why isn't Dion trumpeting it as the solution to all our economic woes anymore? Perhaps even he's come to realize that it's not quite the economic salvation it was cracked up to be?

This has to be Harper's focus for the duration of the campaign. Will Jack increase business taxes? Will Dion impose the carbon tax?

Clearly, Dion and Layton have no plan for the economy other than to say that they will do something and Harper won't. Well, what will they do?

They have both said that they would not run a deficit. What other levers will they pull? A cut in taxes as a stimulus? That would seem a bit too Tory for both.
During the debate, they both seemed to suggest that we needed to protect Canadian jobs. Trade restrictions or foreign investment restrictions, perhaps?

What do they have on their minds?

    Canadians deserve to know!

If the Liberal Party withdrew the Green Shift at this time, they would merely look indecisive and lose anyway: remember when John Tory tried to recant his daft statement about the contradiction between gov't ostensibly refusing to support faith-based schools while simaltaneously funding Catholic ones anyway? (of course, this was coming from a guy who's Toronto mayoral campaign consisted largely of the stupid, anti-homeless proposition that panhandling be banned there, so go figure). Keep in mind, too, that's it's not neccessarily the particulars of the Green Shift that have turned the public off the Liberal campaign - as if most people actually take the time to read these things - but more the general air of incompetence they've exuded since the general election call in September, not to mention the resonance of Conservative propaganda such as the Dion "shrug".

If Dion shelves the shift, what pays for the Arts & Culture funding increase? And the Atlantic Accord $10Billion to Dannyboy? And doubling of the Beer and Popcorn cheque. And all those credits for the North and Seniors ?And all the other program cuts Dion promised to reverse?

No Green Shift, no Liberal Platform.
