Dion flip-flops on raising GST
From the Globe & Mail: "No plans to raise GST, says Dion"
Day Two of the campaign, and already the Tories have Mr. Dion reacting, rather than framing the debate. Although I must say, I'm actually glad he flip-flopped on this one...

Maybe he'll flip-flop on "THE Green Shift" before the campaign is out, so the country won't represent Bolivia's towering economy, should he win.
(that joke sounded funnier in my head, btw)

This is classic, simple politics - and Dion has been sucked right into it.
He DID mention that he might revisit the GST cut by the Conservatives if elected - no firm commitment, if I understood correctly - but this has turned it into a "when did you stop beating your wife?" question. Dion is painted into a corner and there's no way to get out of the corner without getting dirty.
Silly rookie mistake for the Liberals.

Well head honcho of the Dion Team DID, flat outright, say he would raise the GST and excise taxes and impose a carbon tax.

Dion might not have plans to rescind the GST cut, but he does have plans to revisit it.
Rescind - revisit. Whatever.
Harper has now made it very difficult for Dion to raise the GST should he ever get to power. Hooray for that. Canadians feel sufficiently taxed, thank you very much.
