PM Harper - Nice PR Move

It's not only a nice PR move, but is evidence of a Prime Minister who's willing to take action... he is redirecting his own trip back to Canada to Cyprus, reducing it to a skeleton crew, and personally escorting dozens of Canadian refugees home.
"More ships will be on their way in the coming hours, and we are going to keep sending ships to help those Canadians who wish to leave Lebanon. Getting people out of Lebanon is only the first step in the evacuation plan.

Once in a safe haven, citizens who wish to return home must secure air travel back to Canada.

As you know, I was originally scheduled to return to Ottawa from Paris tonight.

Because of the seriousness of the situation – and our relative proximity to Cyprus – I have decided to take the Canadian forces aircraft we have been traveling on to help airlift evacuees back home.

The aircraft will be stripped down to only a skeleton staff, including Laureen and myself, to free up the maximum number of seats for evacuees
."
Try to spin that one Bill Graham!

While I think Mr. Harper's decision to expedite the safe return of these fellow Canadians is the right one, I can't help but wonder why the airplane's "skeleton crew" includes the official photographer (as reported by CP reporter Bruce Cheadle in the Toronto Star, 07/19/06). Given the ostensible purpose of this unscheduled diversion, wouldn't his/her seat be better occupied by one of the stranded Canadians?

    Copy & paste, Al?
Not much of a photo-op considering the vitriol being spewed at the PM from the left-wingers out there. For a guy who made the mistake of supporting Israel's right to exist, he's taking a risk here that someone on that flight full of returning Lebanese Canadians may be a little upset with he & Laureen (although I can't imagine them wanting to cause harm, they're some of the friendliest people you could ever meet).
You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please liberals ever.
