The U of Sask. "Capitalist Pig" Cartoon

You really want to know what my response is? I'm really sad for the author... he/she has no clue what they've really done... offending the God of the Universe.

As for my response... I'm headed of to church this morning, where I will sit around a table with other saints, upon which will be a loaf of bread and a cup of wine. As we sit, we will each turn our thoughts to the Lord Jesus Christ, remembering Him for his act on the cross of Calvary, and giving Him the honour and glory He so righteously deserves. We will do this because the Lord asked us to "Do this in rememberance of me."

The author is welcome to join us anytime.

What cartoon are you talking about?

But I personally doubt that God can actually be offended. I suspect that He's bigger than that.

It's a cartoon of Jesus fellating a pig, which, at face value, is quite offensive. As would be the representation of anyone's Creator doing something really "out of character" to say the least. Like if you were a Muslim and saw Allah being depicted at all, let alone depicted with a bomb in his turban.

Of course, Allah probably doesn't have an actual bomb in his turban, and of course Jesus doesn't engage in such acts with pigs. If you view the world through a literalist lens, you might not get past that and would get offended. The ridiculousness of the thought to most people, is a tipoff as to the meaning behind the depiction. The Allah 'toons are commenting on violence and Islam. The Jesus-Capitalist pig toons are commenting on an unnatural submissive connection between Christianity and capitalism - that Christianity serves materialism, as is reflected in the constant obsession with prosperity and wealth versus other holier pursuits.

An eye for an eye and all that - the most interestin analysis I have ever read can be found HERE.

Aaron: Maybe that's what the cartoon is intended to mean.
however, It's not fair to characterize Jesus of sharing flaws his
followers may have. His words and actions don't condone
materialism, so suggesting they do is actually a lie.

This is a typical simplistic 'cartoonist' approach
to communicating a complex idea. There are much more
intelligent ways of communicating visually. One example
of what I mean is the work of new yorker illustrator
    christoph niemann.

and golfclap: Apparently the irony is lost on you.
