Debate - Is Islam taking over the world?

Mark Steryn is asking that very question. What do you think? Is there any basis for the claim? Warren, if by chance you read this, I'd like your thoughts.

As a Christian, I obviously think that everyone should (and one day will) bow the knee to the Lord Jesus Christ... therefore, in that way alone, I'd have to be considered to be anti-Islamic. However, of course, I believe whole-heartedly that everyone is entitled to believe what they want... I just happen to disagree with them, without (I hope) being disagreable.

I believe that there are many "secular" Muslims who DON'T have a motive to take over the world... I think most of the Muslims we know and work with here in North America would be amongst the secular Muslim camp; therefore, they represent the "religion of peace" Islam that we hear about in the media. However, I do believe that there are forces throughout the world who are actively seeking to spread Islam by any means necessary... and that even secular Muslims will be unable to stem the tide. Ravi Zacheriah said "The question is not whether Islam will survive Western secularism... it's whether Western secularism will survive Islam."

I've heard from and spoken to several missionaries in Islamic nations who agree with this view... and some of our affiliated missionaries are having to work undercover, their identites and locations being kept secret to ensure their safety. Why would they have to do this if there truely was nothing to fear from Islam?

Before you comment, give Mark's article a read. And please keep all responses civil and respectful of everyone.

Mark Stain is an idiot who either has forgotten or is too stupid to know that when the idea of introducing Sharia law in Ontario for civil cases was proposed it was Muslims who were the loudest voice against it.

Before there is too much stock put into Mr. McClelland's rhetoric, one should visit his website and review his various other views on things. Just to get a frame of reference, is all.

With regard to Mark Steyn being an "idiot" on the Ontario Sharia law matter, I'm not sure where Mr. McClelland's commentary is stemming from. Mr. Steyn never mentioned the Sharia law matter in his article. Nonetheless, it would be interesting to dissect that particular legal challenge. Isn't is a sign of the "slippery slope" (a phrase lefties love to use, that I'm going to borrow) that this matter even saw the light of day? Someone obviously felt it had some traction, or the public never would have heard about it. That, in itself, is frightening, and should be a wake-up call.

What islam can not win by firepower they may try and win by infiltration and with liberal & socialist appologists/appeasers it may not be as far fetched as one may think. I will never submit to islam or their false prophet.

Respectfully, I think Ruth may be missing the point due to demographics. The people in Western Europe will not need to convert... they will be overwhelmed.

I forget the exact numbers, but if a replacement birth rate is 2.1 children per couple, France now has a 1.3 birth rate. But this number includes the Muslim population of France, which typically has a much higher birth rate. In two generations, the non-Muslim population of France will be a minority, and the Muslim majority will be free to declare an Islamic state. Non-Muslim Europeans will be tolerated, provided they pay their special tax and keep a low profile.

Will the current population of France decide to start having enough children to replace themselves? Unlikely. Most people are far too self-centered to think about having more children or to think about what might be best for their country. This is not just true for France! Can you imagine any political leader going on TV and making an impassioned plea for people to have more children because the well-being of Canada depends on it?

Another outcome is that France (et al) end up with a large Muslim population that becomes secularized due to the attractions of the Western world. Most of these attractions are decadent and sinful, but there is no question about their ability to scoop up the attentions of a new generation.

Finally, there exists the possibility of spiritual revival in France and in other countries. I am a firm dispensationalist, but nothing within dispensational doctrine precludes the possibility of national revivals. If a country experiences revival, many Muslims will become Christians and most of those who get saved will have a better than 2.1 birth rate.

    Robert McClelland,

If Muslims did not propose Sharia law who did? The Jews?

As for Islam taking over the world it is inevitable given the status quo. Islamic countries have a high birth rate. Non-Islamic countries have a low birth rate. Muslims are immigrating from Islamic countries to Non-Islamic countries and bringing their belief systems with them. The percentage of Muslims in Non-Islamic countries is increasing every year. Follow the logic.

France opened the doors to its former Arab colonies about forty years ago. Currently about one-fifth of the population is Muslim. Forty years! What will it be in three more generations? The rest of Europe and North America are not immune to this trend it is simply taking longer.

The only hope I see, other than the Lords return, is that Christianity does well when Christians are being persecuted.

    nappyhead_44,

I did some quick looking in the CIA World Fact Book and this is what I found:

    * Of the Islamic countries I looked at: Iraq, Iran, Syria, Jordan, and Yemen, only Iran had a population growth rate less than two percent. Yemen had a population growth rate of over 3 percent.
    * Of the western nations I looked at: France, United Kingdom, Italy, Ukraine, Poland, Canada, United States and Germany, none had a population growth rate of one percent. Germany had a population growth rate of zero. Ukraine had a population growth rate of -0.63%.
    * The total population of the Islamic countries I looked at was approximately 165,445,912.
    * The total population of Canada, the United States and the European Union is 785,492,433.
    * Of the median ages of the Islamic countries I looked at none was over 24 years of age.
    * Of the median ages of the Western countries I looked at none were below 36 years of age.

What these numbers say to me is that though we out number Muslims today, they are younger and are having more children than we are.

Anyone have any comments on these numbers (or any other number)

"France opened the doors to its former Arab colonies about forty years ago."

Let's be accurate here. France allowed them in to clean their toilets and do other menial tasks. It was not general benevolence.
