McKenna says "Thanks, but no thanks"
Woo hoo! Frank McKenna WON'T be running for Paul Martin's job. Man, I was worried about him, so this is a relief. I think he would have killed us in Atlantic Canada, and I think he had the momentum to hurt us elsewhere, so I'm glad he's not in the running.
Now, all we have to do is get Ignatieff out of the picture... then 24 Sussex is ours for years to come! (Mu-ah-hah-hah-hah...)

I'm not worried about Ignatiev. (I won't compromise on the spelling.) Guys who are stuck in the academy for so long sometimes have real troubles following real-world conditions, and I think eventually he'd get all arrogant and melt down.

HArper didn't melt down and he is a headuphisass academic from the "academy".

It would have been very 'interesting' to have him in the running since he is on record as giving Morgantaler a difficult time in New Brunswick. I'm wondering if he was 'advised' not to try for that reason...?VF

Wow, so now we will basically have a choice between Stephen Harper, Belinda the billionaire elite turned priciple-less politician, or Ignatieff the lunatic Russian-American academic.
Stephen Harper will be PM for a while...
At least if Ignatieff wins the Libs will have to STFU with the "Stephen Harper would have put our troops in Iraq" line...

Well, being one who knew Mr. McKenna personally while he was in power in New Brunswick, I have to admit that my vote would not automatically go to the Conservatives. McKenna was, by far, the best Liberal leader that I have ever come accross and he is definitely a man of his word. I personally believe that if McKenna were to have run for the Liberal leadership, he would have taken it, hands down, and that would be the end of the Harper government. But, that is just my two cents worth.

Possible candidates include:
-Ignatieff
-Tobin
-Stronach
-Brison
Ignatieff is somewhat of a non-entity on the Canadian political scene. The Liberals may think he's a star candidate, but who has heard of him?
Do any of these people speak French?

Luke exemplifies my point about Frank... as an Easterner, Frank could pull Conservative voters over to the Liberals, and since they're all over Canada now due to the employment issues in the East, it could have been a nightmare for the Tories.

Stronach's french is horrible, don't know about any of the others.

McKenna wouldn't have been as big a draw in Atlantic Canada, I know from when I lived in NS, many Nova Scotians resented him because of business they felt he stole away from NS.
I'm hoping for Scott Brison myself, he would be a perfect contrast to our New PM and even many "socially liberal" Canadians would have a hard time swalloing teh idea of him as PM
