Possible voter FRAUD in Edmonton

My goodness... Small Dead Animals is reporting that Laurie Hawn, Conservative candidate in Edmonton Centre, has filed a complaint with Elections Canada. HUNDREDS of names of registered voters were found to be registered at post office boxes, self storage yards, truck stops, office buildings (entire familes, no less), etc. SOME OF THOSE VOTERS HAD ALREADY VOTED AT THE ADVANCE POLLS!!! This is the riding of "Landslide Annie"... has she been hanging on to this riding for YEARS VIA FRAUD???

The Conservative campaign in Edmonton have requested an offical investigation of the results of the 2004 election, and who know's what's going to happen with Monday's results.

    Some members of Liberal MP Brenda Chamberlain's family have once again used her campaign office address to vote in Guelph by special ballot.

    "I'm really disappointed. The simple fact is that it's against the Elections Act," said Conservative candidate Brent Barr. "I'm disappointed that an MP doesn't know the Elections Act. This is wrong."

    According to information provided by Elections Canada, Chamberlain's son and daughter-in-law, who live outside the riding in Ariss, registered their home address as 259 Grange Rd., the incumbent's campaign office. That allowed them to vote during advance polls in Guelph, but it is against election rules.

    Her family did the same in 2004, and Chamberlain admitted as much when contacted for an earlier story by the Mercury. She said Elections Canada didn't tell her the family couldn't vote in Guelph, and it wasn't her place to stop it.

    Until the 2004 election, Ariss was inside the incumbent's riding of Guelph-Wellington. Boundary changes to create the riding of Guelph have left the incumbent living outside her constituency.

    Under the Elections Act, an exception is made for MPs and those who live with them to vote in a riding in which they do not reside. Chamberlain's son Kevin and daughter-in-law Gillian Chamberlain -- who don't live with the MP -- could not be reached for comment.

    "We don't police it. I'm not an employee of Elections Canada," Chamberlain said on Jan. 10. "If (Elections Canada) made an error, then that is their error."

    It's also against the rules to register with Elections Canada by using an address that is not your permanent address.

    A short list of voters who cast advance ballots in Guelph, which included Chamberlain's family and their registered addresses, was made public by Barr's campaign team.

    Chamberlain did not return repeated phone calls to her office and campaign manager yesterday. Instead, a spokesman from the Liberals' Ontario campaign office called late in the day demanding to know where the special ballot information had come from.

    Stephen Heckbert said the local returning office in Guelph had been contacted by his office. He refused to answer any questions.

    Barr said his campaign team has complained to Elections Canada. He said it's an issue of ethics, and said the public has a right to know a violation occurred.
