Coderre just gave Layton his opening
Unbelievable. if anyone of you thought we weren't going to the polls, this just changed everything... by suddenly up and quitting today, Denis Coderre has perhaps give Jack Layton just the cover he needed to join the Liberals in forcing an election.
With the Liberals in complete disarray, and their Quebec organization is shambles, there's never going to be a better time to go to the polls for Jack Layton's NDP. They're going to be able to poach a whole whack of seats, perhaps even a couple in Quebec, from the disorganized and demoralized Liberals.
I've been checking the Parliamentary website today, watching for the official tabling of the Liberal's non-confidence motion. If they're going to table it, it will be after Question Period around 3:00PM today.
If they Liberals are really worried, watch for the unthinkable... watch for them to take a pass on introducing their motion!
UPDATE: But it shall not come to pass... Layton will continue to prop us up. Wonder how long he can keep this up without his own caucus revolt...

I wonder if Layton can pivot this quickly without losing more credibility? He has staked himself to his narrative that he is focussed primarily with getting a billion out the door to the unemployed.
I think he would need some help from Harper to accomplish that before that is completed, no?

Just curious CC, where exactly would it show up if they do table it?

These palace intrigues are getting complicated. You need a flow chart to track the players and the conflicting game signals. In a matter of 24 hours, (according to your analysis, which I do not disagree with), the NDP go from supporting the government motion on EI to siding with the Liberals on a non-confidence motion. I am geting dizzy and can't keep up. Its like being on a merry-go-round without the fun. Nauseating! A pox on all their houses. Cheers.

For what it's worth, Libby Davies told Tom Clark that the Dipper caucus would discuss how they will vote on the non-confidence motion. So I guess anything is possible.
To Usual Suspect, yah I agree that Jack needs something "egregious" to happen on the EI legislation, for him to go ballistic, and change his "billion dollars for the unemployed" narrative.
That would be the ultimate hardball move, for Jack to suddenly side with the Libs. I guess if some of the Lib caucus chicken out, then Jack gains some talking points, solidifying his base. Is it worth the risk ? Who the hell knows.

Maybe Jack understands that to keep this narrative of the LPC in disarray, the channel shouldn't be changed to the possibility of an election.
Better to let the unofficial liberal leadership get some more momentum before pulling the plug so the MSM can't change the channel.

We need to bide our time. The polls will only get better and that will happen if we don't do anything drastic. Canadians are clearly saying no election and that goes for the Conservative party. If Harper does anything that looks like a poison pill etc he will wear it big time. Time is on our side. Iggy's troubles are just starting. For us the economy is getting better, Xmas is coming and then the Olympics. It looks good for Conservatives.
