Harper drops the gloves

Mr. Harper has just drawn a line in the sand for Mr. Dion, and made our expectations clear, that if he passes the Throne Speech, we expect the following...

1) That this new Crime Bill, Bill C-2, is to be passed within a reasonable timeframe

2) That due to their delay of our previous bills, THIS bill will be considered a matter of Confidence

3) As this is important legislation that has been long demanded by Canadians, we will not be accepting any ammendments to the Bill

    This is a horrible idea.

I believe this post said it well:

    the omnibus crime bill

    From that post:

"If all of the measures in this bill are important to Canadians and meeting their demands, then why not put them through individually and get a real mandate from Canadians, especially since Harper will be claiming a mandate after the bill passes?"

Some of the contents of that bill are quite contraversial and should not be lumped in together.

The opposition chose to stall some of the bills and mutilate others beyond recognition. Now Harper's patience has run out. I hope he manages to push a few bright initiatives through the Parliament while the Liberals are not in shape for election.

    Agreed with Leonard.

The Liberals delayed and mutated the other bills for months on end despite claiming to support them. Harper has now decided to end the games and put it before them as a confidence matter.

If the Liberals are serious about opposing these bills they can still vote against them. Otherwise, clam up and sit down.

As an example, did you notice how fast Rodrigues' Kyoto bill passed through Parliament and Senate? And yet, many other (more deserving IMO) bills were stuck in committee. The Liberals were playing politics and playing it well. Kudos to them for that.

Now Harper has chosen to use the so-called 'nuclear' option. That is also within his right.

    Fish or cut bait.
