From the "You've got to be kidding" file
German politician Gabriele Pauli has come up with a suggestion for marriage... they should expire after seven years, at which time, couples can either let them expire, or renew them.
As one Scottish friend of mine would say, "Emmm... NO."
My wife and I said "Until death do us part", and we meant every word of it. If you don't mean it, don't get married.
Marriage is a sacred covanent between one man, one woman, and Almighty God... with no "best before" date, thank you very much, Ms. Pauli.

"Marriage" is a word that can mean whatever you want it to mean, just like every other word. :)

Deuteronomy 24
1 If a man marries a woman who becomes displeasing to him because he finds something indecent about her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends her from his house, 2 and if after she leaves his house she becomes the wife of another man, 3 and her second husband dislikes her and writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends her from his house, or if he dies, 4 then her first husband, who divorced her, is not allowed to marry her again after she has been defiled. That would be detestable in the eyes of the LORD. Do not bring sin upon the land the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance.
So...uh...contradiction?

And He [Jesus] answered and said, "Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE, and said, 'FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH'? "So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to GIVE HER A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE AND SEND her AWAY?" He said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way."
Matthew 19:4-8
No contradiction... just God knows our wicked hearts all too well. ;-)

Marriage may be a "sacred covanent (sic) between one man, one woman, and Almighty God" for you, but when my wife and I got married, no god or gods had anything to do with it.
Why is it so hard for Christians to understand that their conceptions are not shared by everyone else?

Ahh crap, when I was married, I made sure there was no reference to god, shiva, the raven, or any pasta-related deity. So now you are telling me that my marriage is invalid due to the lack of participation of a "god"? Great. Now I have to lose a bunch of weight and get back in the dating pool. Thanks for nothing Christian Conservative. If that is your real name. Which I doubt as it wouldn't fit on a hockey jersey.
