I guess the more important question is, do I buy Metroid Prime 3 for the Wii at Future Shop here in Canada for $59.99, or do I head down to the US to buy it at Walmart for $49.82? (along with some clothes and other things, to make the trip worthwhile... of course)

Do neither. As long as Canadians go off to the US to shop, producers of products will continue to overprice them to the retailers in Canada, and then pocketing the "free profits". (The retailers suffer doubly - limited margin room to lower prices, and loss of business by people who shop across the border.)
The right answer to price gouging - and this is what it is - is "no business of any sort to you until you play fairly in both markets".
After all, however much you might want it, you can delay gratification a bit. Isn't a failure to do so the sin of greed?

Actually, we're not going to the States just yet, but were considering going sometime this fall.
