This fight is for the birds

This round...

Current standings...

$0.9978USD vs. $1.00CAD

(as of 12:45pm EDT)

We'll see who's on top when the markets close, but our dollar has remained above the greenback a lot more today than it did with it's brief flirtation over the line yesterday.

Advice: Buy all of your books from amazon.com before Christmas. You get charged the US publisher prices, and if you load up you save on shipping. The cost for me was about $100 less.

    Yes, I wrote $100.

My sister works in the administration office of a small chain (4 stores) of Christian book, music and gift stores. A lot of their inventory was purchased several months ago when the Canadian dollar was a whole lot lower. Now, when new stuff comes in at the higher rate, they are forced to mark down what had already been purchased at the lower rate. This severely cuts into their margin, and in some cases, wipes it out entirely. I am sure this is the same for all book and music/video stores. People should keep this in mind when they complain about why goods imported from American suppliers aren't immediately priced to reflect the higher exchange rate.

As much as we canadians think this iss a good thing, it really is not. Given our dependence on the americans to buy our crap, I mean, exports, this is causing the American buyers to look elsewhere.

This is true, not only for consumer goods, but for supply chains, such as in the automotive industry.
