Liberals conducting American style politics

There's a real irony to this latest one. All the time, Liberals like to accuse us of using American style politics, or of employing fearmongering tactics, or, their favorite one, accusing us of being little Bush-clones.

In their most recent attack, they're trying, once again, to link us to George W. Bush. Ironic though, if you think about it... using fear-mongering tactics against those they accuse of... using fear-mongering tactics. (did I miss something there?)

Anyway, that's a sidepoint. Here's the most interesting part of their new fear-mongering strategy... they're employing American style politics in doing it. And not just any American style politics... they're using Nixon/Watergate-style, borderline illegal American style politics.

What else do you call taking photos through office windows from across the street, under the cover of darkness?

Here's the one they're showing everyone in a video right on their website...

And there's Mr. Dion, off on the left, looking on approvingly of what his little minions have come up with... a photo, taken under the cover of darkness, of a PMO staffer's wall, where someone has put up a Bush-Cheney 04 poster.

Amm, so let me get this straight... a political staffer, who appears to be just like me, a political junkie and collects political memorabilia, is the "hidden link" proving conclusively, once and for all, that the CPC is in bed with George W. Bush?

GIVE ME A BREAK. I'm a political junkie, and I got all kinds of that garbage sitting up in my office. A nice poster of the House of Commons, various campaign buttons, a signed copy of Preston Manning's "The New Canada"... so what? I even said a couple years ago that I'd like to have picked up that very same Bush-Cheney 04 poster or bumper sticker, just for postarity's sake. Actually, what I'd really like is a 2006 Stephen Harper lawn sign from Calgary-Southwest... can anyone hook me up?

Come on guys... didn't Mr. Dion himself say that he would not "stoop" to such negativity, and then to look on in approval of this sort of American style Nixon/Watergate era stunt?

Talk about hypocrisy. I'm sorry, my dear Liberal friend... Canadains are not that dumb. They're going to see this for exactly what it is... disgusting, dirty, mud slinging politics at its very worst.

For shame.

ps - by the way guys... who is the photographer? Is he on the public, or the Party's, payroll? Just asking...

It is very possible that someone from either the Liberal Party or the Liberal Research Bureau is spying on the Prime Minister's Office. If it's the latter, that would mean that taxpayer's dollars are being used to spy on our own Prime Minister. I think the burden of proof is on the Liberal Party to explain who is responsible for spying on the PMO.

What is happening is typical Lieberal practice. Say one thing, and under the cover of feigned outrage, do the opposite.

    This is the lieberal way.

Lieberals worship the USA. They almost exposed their desire to sell out Canada publicly with the choice of USA wannabe Iggy.

It was no mis-step for the lieberals to invite failed US Dem presidential nominee Howard the scream to their convention.

Howard's advice? Import more US-style negative campaigning techniques.

Why is the MSM not publishing the fact that the lieberal environmental policy of do nothing, blame others, was written by another failed US Dem presidential candidate, who did nothing while he was VP and now blames others ????

    Continentalism is treason.....

Let's not forget that James Carvill and Howard Dean are their paid advisors.

You lost me... where's the connection to Watergate here?

It's the style in which it was done... it's the sort of dirty trick associated with the Nixon Watergate scandal... I mean, come on... what kind of party lies in wait to take photos from across the street at night?

The Watergate scandal was about two things:
    - espionage (wiretaps) of an opponent's campaign headquarters
    - repeated denials of the espionage

In other words, crimes were committed. You're overstating the case here significantly.

There's nothing illegal about taking a picture of someone's house at night.

"There's nothing illegal about taking a picture of someone's house at night."

Actually, if the window is open, technically there is... it's called "voyurism"... part of Section 162 of the Criminal Code of Canada.

"who is the photographer? Is he on the public, or the Party's, payroll? Just asking..."

Well when you're done finding out, here's another question that might be worth asking:

Who pays Stephen Harper's fashion consultant/psychic friend? And how do you feel about a person with who promotes the paranormal getting tax dollars to work for a supposedly Christian PM? Just asking.

Sure thing jDave. I actually have no problem with the PM having an image consultant... I'd have no problem with Dion having one either, since image is important in this current political climate.

Now, as for the psychic stuff... that weirds me out a bit. However, is it that she's HIS psychic, or just an image consultant who happens to be a psychic on the side?

As for the "paranormal"... since the spiritual realm does indeed exist, I again don't have an issue with someone who believes in it... it's the way they look at it that bothers me.

As a Christian, I believe that anyone who looks into the spiritual realm outside of the Christian faith is looking into it via the "other side", that being through satanic means... be they a psychic, hindu, wiccan, pagan, etc.

So the PM has a potential satanist as a close advisor.... Remind me again why you support this guy?

And if you have no problem with paid image consultants, why the concern over a photographer?

Value for money, I'd rather have a photographer on the public payroll than someone who needs to consult with Satan before informing Steve Harper that socks don't go with sandals.

    Voyeurism... are you serious?

This whole post and the comments are really something else. The video you're busy decrying, first of all, isn't a campaign ad. Second, it's also not a mud-slinging ad. This video is simply pointing out stuff yourself, other CPC'ers, and the PMO have been saying/doing over the last few years.

Here's the essence of the video: the Harper led Conservatives have been influenced significantly by the US Republican party under GW Bush.

I don't quite understand why you're getting so upset over this message. Even in this post, you express support for Bush, et al, so it's a confusing to me why you find this so offensive.

Also, is anything in this video untrue?

I think this is a reasonable point to be raising. There are many policy areas held by Bush & co. where I, personally, would not like to see us go: for instance, ballistic missile defence, or military engagement in Iraq. I hope that our government would continue to stay out of both.
