RCMP News Conference on Terror Plot in TO

12 men, 5 boys have been arrested in joint raids throughout the GTA. They may have been connected to Al-Quiada. They were running a local training camp north of the city.

3 TONS of Ammonium Nitrate was seized... ONLY ONE TON WAS USED BY TIMOTHY MCVEIGH IN THE OAKLAHOMA CITY BOMBING. I've been to that memorial... glad I won't have one in my hometown to visit.

Hats off to our RCMP, OPP, municipal forces, and CSIS.

UPDATE II: The Toronto Star has released the names of those arrested.

And don't forget to add the 5 young offenders, who can't be named.

    Just sit back and watch the paranoia and denial from Islamic leaders , first they'll assure us that they are only Alleged to have been criminal, then they'll call for calm and not scapegoat Muslims for the actions of a few, then once they're convicted and jailed we'll get the ususaly Tripe about how they weren't "True" Muslims.

    Islam does not mean peace, it means submission to gods laws and after you kill all the Kufirs then there will be peace.

    Somebody's gotta talk to their people: they took far less time than you to serve out the paranoia, with a side dish of special pleading. They're clearly slipping.

    These offences are extremely serious. There must be a way to deport these persons even if they are citizens after they serve there time.

    Sounds like a hell of a plan - sending people who may have an affinity for terrorist acts outside the range of our watchful eyes.

    Yeah how about we consentrate on jailing these guys in canada anon. Rather than giving them an all expenses paid trip into the arms of al quiada. where they can be reprogramed into suicide robots. good idea

    I actually heard that Stephen Harper personally found out about this, called CSIS, the Mounties, Metro police, and the OPP into his office and mapped out the operation, all by himself.

    He was in on the whole thing, first to last. If Paul Martin had been Prime Minister, the police never would have completed this operation. I'm dead serious.

    I don't think that Paul Martin is that neglegent...though, he might wait until an election before making the move. No matter how you look at it, we should be thankful that it these guys were detected and caught. The big question is, how many are still out there?

    Terrorists don't need to blow up the TTC. They can just get the union to go on a wild cat strike :)

    On a more serious note it does make me wonder how prepared Toronto is for a terrorist attack. Anybody know anything about disaster preparedness plans and scenarios in T.O.?
