John Tory just handed Toronto's Mayoralty?
Federal Liberal Party President Rocco Rossi has just resigned, rumour from National Newswatch is that he's throwing his hat into the ring for the Toronto Mayor's race.
I just love it when they split the left... with John Tory's strong centrist credentials, I think he's got the right locked up, and will keep a strong portion of the middle, thereby sewing up this fight before it even start.
That is, of course, assuming he jumps into the race.

I find it passing strange as well, with Rossi in the race the Liberal vote will surely be split, although Smitherman is more well known so that might offset some of the bleeding.
In any case, if people voted based on decently looking hair, then Tory compared to two bald men will surely have the upper hand.

I dunno... that Picard guy seems to win most head-to-head polls Jim Kirk, at least with the ladies... ;-)

I think Tory is going to run into trouble again by being unable to make the big decision (whether or not to run), and by the time he does, he'll have dithered too long and it will be too late. Already it's a problem, what happened to his and Smitherman's agreement only one would run? Now we'll have them both running splitting the centre 'right' vote (still not sure how Smitherman will pull that one off).

We need a real conservative in the race though - John Tory is another liberal in my book that would be splitting votes with Smitherman and Rossi. Maybe Doug Holyday? Rob Ford? John Capobianco?

Yea, but John Tory would be a 10,000% improvement over Miller.

To Anon@7:11, there is no way Tory is still dithering. His mind is made up, whether we know it or not.

Craih: I guess by "real" conservative, you mean "American-style, monetarist" conservative, though regardless of our respective opinions on the matter it's a moot point, as one of the latter would never win the TO mayoralty.
In any case, if JT gets elected I hope he devotes atleast some of his energies to cracking down on organized labour and expanding the hours of the TTC (and maybe getting rid of Guardian Angel vigilantism?).
