Warren heading up the WarRoom

It's official... according to the Hill Times, Warren Kinsella will indeed be running Ignatieff's "War Room" during the upcoming campaign, as a "volunteer". (perhaps in an effort to insulate Iggy in case anything goes wrong...)

While many of my fellow Tories will mock and deride him, I see this as a blow to us... trust me, he WILL do us some damage. Take one of his most recent posts as an example... "Harper wants a Majority because his party hates minorities".

While we all know this isn't in any way true, this is just the opening salvo in what's going to be a nasty campaign... and quite frankly, we have only ourselves to blame.

Thanks to the fiasco of the "HRC Section 13" junk that folks have been harping on for months on end, Warren's going to be able to make some serious hay with that issue. The Liberals will have a load of ammo in the can, ready to go, portraying us as being a bunch of racist bigots. Don't forget the Flanagan line that's been floating around for the last week... "It doesn't have to be true, it just has to be plausible". I submit to you all that our various quotes on Section 13 will give some plausibility to that theme in the minds of some voters.

THAT'S why Warren is effective... he can take a mole hill, and make an electoral mountian out of something. It's coming, and now there's nothing we can do to stop it.

I certianly hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid we're going to see why Section 13 was a bad hill to plant our flag on... why do you think I abstained from the vote in Winnipeg? Yes, the HRC's need to be reformed... but the way we've gone about the issue is gonna come back and bite us.

Careful now as he might sue you as he does to almost everyone else.

Not a chance... he knows I'm a fan of sorts, and nothing in this post is "negative"... that's why I could put his name on the post in full, because apparently he's got Google Alerts on his name.

And on that note... Hi Warren! I'd wish you luck in Ottawa, but you know, I do want your guy to lose and all... ;-)

you are correct - he will do some damage - his spin is vile, vacuous, and evil, but he is good at what he does. It is up to us to unmask his hateful blathering, and pick at his many weak spots - like a zebra, he cannot sue what he cannot home in on

Iggy is truly an empty suit for engaging him - should he win, you just know the price - "entitled to your entitlements" anyone ?

Really, he is going to head the LPC war room?

And this the guy who said back in early 2006 "...what a lot of long-time Liberals are talking about these days, albeit quietly: the number of tourists in the Liberal Party, who puff themselves up and think they should lead it." "Tourists come and go, in my experience."

I guess now with the recession and all that he wants to promote more tourism =)

'portraying us as being a bunch of racist bigots'

and there is something 'new' in that message?
    What exactly did
    PMSH or Con MPs
say/do that makes the CPC vulnerable over sect13?

Wilson, it's not PMSH or MP's that are the problem, it's members of "the base" who are going to get us killed at the local level on this one.

Warren need only plant the idea in the back of a voters mind, then one of our supporters makes some dumb comment at a local debate, and poof, there goes the 1% of the vote the candidate needs to win.

That happens in enough ridings, and we've got a big problem on our hands.

Kinsella is not important. Herle and Reid are the brains. Kinsella is a lawyer so his services will be considered a donation. He better declare his donation soon.

Well it's not as if the CPC is inexperienced with Spinsella and his fearmongering.

If the LPC thinks that Canadians want to hear 'evil Harper-election #4' instead of actual policy....they will lose big time.
The electorate is very very agitated about non-stop elections.

IMO, Iffy will be answering alot more to the liberal base saying dumb things than PMSH.

Because not only will this be Iffy's first national campaign,
it is also the leadership convention that grassroots libs were ripped off from having.
    They want to be heard.

It was Liberal Keith Martin who introduced the private members bill on scrapping section 13.

It's my expectation - or perhaps fondest wish - that this election will be decided by policy. What party can lay out the most compelling vision for Canada, with the plans to carry them through?

If such a miracle occured then Kinsella might do more damage than good. He would only accentuate the fact that Ignatieff is, at least to this point, berift of ideas.

Thus conservatives can answer the typical accusations of racism and hidden agendas that Liberals haul out with unerring regularity with the simple refrain "Where's the beef, Professor Ignatieff?"

If Spinsella had a hand in Iffy's questions in QP today,
    worry not.

PMSH definitely has his mojo back.

I think you are giving Kinsella waaaaaayyyy too much credit. That bum has been riding a wave of credit for his vaunted tactics for way too long and this election will prove that he is not the myth he has created himself to be.

If anything, he is a legend in his own slime. Also, he can't wave Barney dolls at Harper. Harper would demolish that hack in debate.

Furthermore, I might remind you of this:

"Warren Kinsella, National Post – June 21, 2005

I am a Liberal, and liberal, but I like Stephen Harper.

The main reason for liking him is personal. When my Dad died, a year ago last week, Mr. Harper called me and my Mom to express condolences. He talked about meeting my Dad once, and he talked at length about his own father, who had passed away not long before.

There was no reason for the Conservative leader to call me in the middle of a hotly contested election campaign. As one of those so-called political strategists, I had in fact written and said plenty that was critical of Mr. Harper and his party over the years. But he called anyway, and that call was something my family and I will never forget. "

Seems he's forgotten already. What a tool!

You have a core of racists in your party, just as the Con Party itself supported fascism in the 1920's and 1930's and the only reason Mulroney apologized to the Italian-Canadians for their having been interred was because he was trying to bury one fascist past along with another. It's that social authoritarian thing again, the Mike Harris kill the f'ing Indians attitude that runs so strong and deep in the Con.

Two can play the plausibility game.

Is it plausible to believe that Kinsella was the guy responsible for wafergate?

    Jerry,

Funny the accusation of "social authoritarianism" is never levelled at Liberals when they seek to implement illiberal gun registries, or run a provincial campaign against the funding of religious schools that's popular support hinges on the notion that embracing institutional plurality would cause "social dysfunction."

...And didn't Mackenzie King jot in his diary that he had admiration for Hitler? And turn down a boatload of Jewish refugees seeking safe haven? Guess you'll have to ask a Liberal - they're academic-ish, right? - the next time they're trying to prevent optionality in joining unions provincially, or making kids leap through one or eight new hoops just to get a glossy government-issued driver's license.
