"A new Boston Tea Party"?
That's what Warren has suggested may occur if this trend continues... with our reliance on our cars, Canadians can only take so much more of these rising oil prices.
My two cents? We need to start hammering home the point to Canadians, "You think it's bad now? If you vote for Dion, just watch what happens to oil and gas prices!"
His views on Kyoto will cause the price at the pumps to soar, there's just no way around it. To raise the funds he's going to need for implementation, and in an effort to curb usage, they're going to raise fuel taxes. Add to that the fact that they're going to punish the producers in Alberta, which will also cause a spike in oil prices.
The message? Same as it was back in the days of the Boston Tea Party... overtaxation on a staple product (tea then, gas now), and an overbearing ruling class as the root cause (the British King then, Mr. Dion's Liberals now).
In other words, "The Red Coats are coming, the Red Coats are coming!"
It's time for another Revolution.

The muddleheadedness on this issue from the left is mindboggling. They want to institute a carbon tax to make it more expensive to drive a car so people drive less or get more efficient vehicles. Then when the prices go up on their own due to market forces they complain that fuel prices are too high for the "average" Canadian to afford and the government must do something to bring the prices down.
*head explodes*

Warren should talk to his employer Dalton McGuinty about this.
Manitoba just removed legislation preventing ONTARIO-MADE electric vehicles from being used on roads yet , ONTARIO STILL PREVENTS ONTARIO-MADE ELECTRIC CARS being used!

Two things are going to happen soon.
1) Rapid push to alternative, non-gasoline based fuel. Nuclear cars is possible, as is solar-electric or other up-and-coming technologies.
2) Institution of the "Digital Workplace". People will no longer physically be at on office, only virtually. Thus limiting the need to drive.

A Christian is supposed to be a steward of the earth. The fact is, you SHOULD be at the forefront of supporting conservation, and Greener, cleaner policies for our environment (that is of course, unless you belong to one of these right-wing sects that want Armageddon to get her as soon as possible -- helping to destroy that stewardship is certainly one way some of those folks try to justify not doing a lick to save the environment).
I, as a fellow Christian, am appalled you would rather support the oil companies and the Conservatives misplaced policies over trying to save the Earth as a whole.

Actally Scott, I'm a BIG fan of conservation... go looking through my blog at how many times I've talked about single people in SUV's and trucks... we all need to do our part.
That being said, I'm against punishing the majority of the nation, including the poor, by rasing gas taxes to pay for the Liberal's failure to implement the Kyoto protocol. I'm no fan of "Big Oil", but I also recognize that the average Canadian can't afford to be hit any harder in their wallets for gas.
There has to be a balance.
In the meantime, I'm going to keep on doing my bit to reduce my own consumption... like walking to work, as I do almost every day.

Scott tribe: There is absolutely no evidence that any of the policies are 'greener' than conventional oil. There is increasing evidence that in fact bio fuels is far worse than conventional oil. With present technology electric vehicles are also less 'green' than conventional oil. I truly hope that we will someday find a 'greener' energy source than oil but I haven't seen anything that is even viable let alone 'greener'.
