To my dear Liberal friends...

... who are spinning like mad, trying to cover for the unfortunate comments made by Mr. Dion, regarding his musings about NATO invading Pakistan...

May I present to you the main webpage of the Pakistan Daily Times...

Yes indeed, you read that correctly... "Pakistan at centre-stage over Canadian politician's remarks".

Regardless of what the Canadian media is saying, the Pakistani media seems to think that his comments were pretty clear... and they don't appreciate it too much.

Beer and popcorn is old news... at least that didn't spark an internation incident.

If you believe in the end times, then any advice you might offer about foreign policy, the environment, domestic planning or the economy are all suspect. After all, why would you even care about the future of the planet? It's all going to end anyway.

When I hear that all the end times bull has been properly relegated to the dustbin of history, and that all of the nutbars have realized the lunacy of their beliefs (at least in that regard), then I'll recommend we start listening to their opinions again. Until then, so sorry.

BTW, I don't really care about the Dion/Pakistan thing. It pales in comparison to the idiocy of religious fervour.

The difference, of course, is that one is provoking an international confrontation. The other is a belief that has no affect on non-believers whatsoever. Yeah, we should totally listen to you.

Hey, anon-y-mouse, your bigotry is clearly evident. No-one is trying to convert you, why so bitter about religion?

You can bow down to the god of yourself or let me guess, the environment, allow others the freedom of religion that is in our constitution.

When the dimwits who believe that garbage are making policy even though they believe that it is futile to do so, then it has a rather drastic effect on me. If you believe in the end times, and specifically in the very popular premillenial dispensationalist view, then I might reasonably ask why you should be allowed to make ANY policy that involves future planning that you believe is irrelevant. Let those of us who know we'll still be here do the planning instead.

If you believe in end times bullcrap, then either you truly believe the hogwash, in which case you fit my description above, and you should butt out of policy. Or, you pretend to believe it, in which case you are untrustworthy and dishonest and shouldn't be making policy anyway.

hunter: I outlined why I think an end-times believer really doesn't have much to offer in the way of advice wrt any foreign or domestic policy. How is that not clear to you?

I don't care if people practice their religion in private, but I can't be responsible for those who can't understand the implications of their belief. Their belief is their responsibility, so they should live with the consequences: in this case, deny the future and you forfeit your right to comment on it or, frankly, f*ck it up for the rest of us.

For that matter, why is it that rapture believers get a free pass with their driver's license? What if you get raptured and your car swerves off and kills someone? If you truly believe in that crap, then why do you have a license?

In case you are unaware, I'm using the royal 'you' in my posts. I don't know if you personally believe in end times prophecy.

The bottom line is that no one takes these morons seriously, so as much as their twisted worldview makes them feel justified, there is a bulk social awareness of how retarded it all is, and so no one is worried about it overall.

The real problem is when they get their finger on the button and start to enable their whackjob prophecies.

You've got quite a hate there, anonymous. Have you ever considered therapy? If you are in therapy, have you considered finding a better therapist?

"The bottom line is that no one takes these morons seriously"

And we should take you seriously because....??????

Anony - see here is the thing that I don't understand about people of your ilk (and I will make an assumption here that you do not vote Conservative, therefore, you vote for one of the left wing parties) - the think is that you spout off being so open minded, that you spout off that Conservatives are bigots and racists and whatever you think in that little mind of yours, yet you have no tolerance at all for anyone who believes differently than you do.

That is the thing about Conservatives that you obviously do not know - we actually believe that people should have the FREEDOMS that this country was built on -

Freedom of speech - which allows you to deride CC over and over and over.

Freedom of the press - which allows the media to report negatively against the Tory government with no consequences

Freedom of religion - which allows CC to openly post his beliefs and you to openly post your atheism.

Obviously, your beliefs do not allow any of that, so please tell me how you feel you are better than CC or better than Conservatives.

    I will be waiting.......

    Back on topic...from the article:

    * High commissioner in Ottawa says Dion ‘deluded’ to think of military intervention

    By Khalid Hasan

WASHINGTON: A virtual storm broke out over Pakistan in Canada last week following Liberal party leader Stéphane Dion telling a press conference that NATO forces should intervene in Pakistan to prevent terrorists from crossing over into Afghanistan.

...''we could consider that option with NATO forces in order to help Pakistan help us pacify Afghanistan.”

Some Libloggers are not buying the 'diplomacy' explaination either.

What did Dion finally realize from his Afghan visit that made him so hawkish?

That the mission has changed from combat to defense and training (since Sept 2006)
    And the casualties keep coming.

Dion fact finds that Liberal demands have already been met.
    And the casualties keep coming.

    Anon @ 12:57am, I welcome your thoughts.

As a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, I feel I have an obligation to put forward ideas and support policies that are in the best interest of my fellow man... for ALL Canadians, not just a select few.

Secondly, in regards to environmental issues, I firmly believe that the Most High God entrusted us with this planet, to care for it, to ensure that we are good stewards of it... and in that, we have all failed. I believe in the soon return of the Lord Jesus Christ, that's true... but can you tell me WHEN that's going to occur? It could be today, it could be 1000 years from now... and as such, this world has to last that long. As such, I will always seek to do my part in taking care of this world.

If you're assuming that I hate the environment because I hate Kyoto... well, then you obviously don't understand Kyoto... try reading the document some time. You can borrow my hardcopy if you'd like... I read it enough times already.

Geez, how did this conversation become about religion?

Pakistan would have no knowledge of what was said if it wasn't for the misrepresented rhetoric going on here and pumping the Pakistani Commissioner with it - he would then report back.

I'm very suspicious of Musharaff(sp?) - why he won't let anyone talk, go in or anything else. He's taken billions of dollars and yet has done "very" little to stop terrorism and I wouldn't be surprised if he's playing both sides of the fence.

I know the CPC are dwelling on this to distract from the many negatives going on in Harper's government right now - so, I think the CPC have to take some responsibility here.

Dion didn't say attack and you people know it.

PS: I believe in Christ, but not organized religion getting rich on the business of religion. In fact, there are several televangelists in the US being investigated right now.

Christ believed in the separation of church and state, he did not believe in large religious organizations pulling on lots of money and he said one should pray alone. Check out the book of Matthews on this.

Repeating about him spilling his blood and all that stuff repeatedly means nothing if you don't practise what he preached.

Amm, yes, "invasion" was never used... he was also speaking in French, and referred to "NATO FORCES"... "forces" can ONLY refer to a military option.

    Hi CC;

As I pointed out on my blog on this topic:

Since earlier in the week Dion said:
"The military forces of Canada have a role to play after February, 2009 - even though it's not combat, it will be for security the only difference is you don't proactively be in a situation to engage the enemy.

It is doubtful that he intended a military intervention in Pakistan. He probably meant something more like an exchange of Layton and the NDP for a second round draft pick and a gimmie…

I do suggest a government grant to send over a plane load of snowballs to throw over the Afghan Pakistan boarder….

Now please move the net there is a car coming….
