How low would you go?
Well, time to weigh in on last nights major political event... Bob Rae skinny-dipping with Rick Mercer.
Well, it's not like it hasn't been done before... that is, a politician stripping down, and still managing to pull off a major electoral victory. Just ask Arnold... in both Terminator and T2. (I didn't see T3, so can't comment)
I know, most people will say it's just harmless fun. BUT, this isn't just some average Joe goofing off at the cottage... it was deliberately staged, filmed, and then broadcast to the entire nation... and this from the guy who's seeking to be elected to the highest office in our country for crying out loud!
Scary thought is, in this warped nation of ours, likely no one will blink an eye at it. As I said in my rants the other week about Belinda, I expect that a higher standard is set by my elected officials. Of course, Mr. Rae is not presently an elected official... yet.
Having said all that, I will say one more thing... if he's elected leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, you know that there is no way that clip will remain buried during the next campaign. I'm taking bets on how many butt jokes we'll hear...
Here's another little tid-bit to ponder... some of those life-long Liberal grannies, who have voted Liberal all their life, simply won't stand for this sort of moral decay from members of their Party... sorry, they just won't. Many of them are "old-school" like that. Add to that the whole Domi-gate affair, and you've got a large swath of voters who may vote with their canes... and wheelchairs, and walkers.
So, if you support the CPC and have some time to volunteer on the next Election Day, sign up to be a driver... give some of those nice moral, upstanding, respectable, vote-switching elderly women a lift to the polls! ;-)

I have no idea what happened as I didn't see the show but why would we care about Bob Rae skinny dipping? I thought we were above the prudishness of the US up here in Canada. It's just nudity, for crying out loud.

"just nudity"
Genesis 3:7 "Then the eyes of both of them opened, and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves."
The common exposure of the human body is a deplorable act. It has been a great bane of every "civilized" culture in history. It has lead to the downfall of many a great man. Pornography and various other sexual perversions are sin. Deal with it.

Riiiight. Your religious opinions are fine for you if you want to hold on to them, but realistically speaking nudity is the natural state for humans and shouldn't be the basis for who we choose as PM. The only reason it's considered "shameful" is because certain religious people decided it was (and not all religious people, there are even Christians who are into naturism who realize that nudity is nothing to be ashamed of).

Funny... Adam and Eve, the original and most perfect (until Christ came) human beings ever thought it was a shameful thing to be naked.
Could it be that, perhaps, it's more that these so called "Christians" who feel that sin (aka "naturism") is okay have rather been decieved by the same serpent who deceived mankind in the first place?
"The heart of man is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked... who can know it?" Jer 17:9
Dude, you don't have any Biblical ground to stand on in this one. Every reference to nudity in the Bible, save those made in the context of marriage, were either "shameful" and/or there was sin involved. (ie - Bathsheba bathing on the rooftop at night was okay, King David looking at her was not)
Of course, there was the three year period that God told Isaiah to walk around in the buff, but God had a distinct purpose in that, and was trying to drive home a point to the rebellious nation of Israel.

I don't have an issue with the skinnydippling as long as its pixelated enough I don't have to see his nakedness.
My question is whether he will be treated the same as Stockwell Day was with the wetsuit.
I seem to remember Mr. Day getting absolutely trashed in the media for that one.

"Funny... Adam and Eve, the original and most perfect (until Christ came) human beings ever thought it was a shameful thing to be naked."
Right, but Adam and Eve probably never actually existed. I take Genesis 3 as being very metaphorical and I believe that Adam and Eve represent all of us and the "forbidden fruit" that they (we) "ate" was religion which causes us to feel shame. Once Christ frees us from religion we no longer feel unnecessary shame.
"Could it be that, perhaps, it's more that these so called "Christians" who feel that sin (aka "naturism") is okay have rather been decieved by the same serpent who deceived mankind in the first place?"
Could be, but I believe it's more likely that the more conservative religious folk are the ones who have been deceived by the "serpent." Remember, I don't believe that Scripture is meant to be interpreted as literally as you do (or as I used to).

Metaphorical...
Thus, no original sin, thus no fall... thus no need for Christ to come and die.
Nice logic.

A one-time, 6,000-year old fall isn't necessarily necessary for sin or Christ's sacrifice.

"But seeing Bob Rae's pixellated bum? Why is that deplorable?"
Well, actually, that might be. Not necessarily wrong, but quite possibly deplorable. :D

Dirk, re-read the post... I never said I had a problem with what Rae did per-sae, it was the filming and broadcasting of that which I had a problem with.
Again, some average Joe at the cottage, in private, carry on... but a political figure pulling a televised stunt like that while pursuing the highest office in the land? Come on...
Drew, how do you reconcile the issue of death before sin when you extend the timeline beyond 6000 years? The Scripture clearly tells us that death came as a direct result of sin. Thoughts?

Yeah, but religious reasons aside, why should we care?

I don't believe that the wages of "sin" is physical death but is rather spiritual death. I also believe that taking the Bible too literally is a huge mistake.
