Harper Ups the Ante

The Right Honourable Stephen Harper just told the Opposition, "I'll see your bet, and raise you $1200". The Child Care Allowance WILL BE A MEASURE OF CONFIDENCE, included in the annual budget.

It won't be all that bad if they do pull the plug... it'll be really fun watching a dozen Liberal "leaders" falling all over each other on the campaign trail!!!

it's safe to say that the budget will pass. the threat to harper's govt, at this stage, is obviously not the official opposition. the threat to harper's govt is harper himself. while canadians may view harper as confident in the early going, a perception of arrogance is one speech or photo op away. canadians vote for the leader more often than not, since the libs ain't got one, he can thump his chest for awhile yet.

    Wow.

A leader. A leader with balls. Here, in our streets. In Candada. I'm not making this up.

(Note: Man, I hope this doesn't backfire...)

Socialists know that you are too stupid to raise your children. And they see the added danger that you may not give them a correct political education that should be taught by heavily unionized government bureaucrats.

He's gotta do it; as PM, he's not sitting at the $5 table any more. I don't envy the man; he was to walk a fine line between appearing confident and appearing arrogant, and sometimes it's just media spin that makes the difference between the two.

I think he just got tired of the chest thumping, sabre rattling liberals.
He put it up front and said now is the time for the libs to either put up or shut up and even I don't think they are stupid enough to want an election.
But hey, the libs haven't been that smart lately and they seem to think they lost the election through a fluke of nature.

"Socialists know that you are too stupid to raise your children."

Well, technically most people are too stupid to raise children, but that's not to say that "socialists" would do any better a job. :)

That's not a bad response, but the arrogance of socialists to think the State can do a better job than the family unit - for all its faults - is still pretty extensive.

Harper has to be careful, any appearance of confidence is immediatly portrayed as arrogance by the media.

Also, I think it is in bad taste to essentially "rub there noses in it". I think the Conservatives should keep pressing the Liberals, but don't taunt them.
