Liberals set stage for election
This just in... the Liberals have put forward a motion requiring that Canadian troops MUST withdraw from Afghanistan by February 2009. The motion will be debated tomorrow and voted on next Tuesday.
To be honest, if the House was going to fall sooner rather than later, the Liberals have picked a good issue (for them) to go down on.
I think we'll be able to counter it fairly effectively though... indicating that we plan to withdraw by that date, but in the interests of protecting the people of Afghanistan from tyrany and oppression from religious fanatics, we will leave the door open to remain longer. (I'd like to watch the left try and fight on that ground)
We'll see how it plays out.

Don't vote Conservative.

This motion again shows why the Liberals are not fit to run the country. Parliament already voted to extend the mission to Feb 2009. The decision on whether to extend the mission further or end it at 2/2009 won't have to be made for about another 10 months. So what's the hurry ? Let's acquire more information during that time so that we can make a more informed decision WHEN WE HAVE TO. It just shows incredible incompetence on Dion's part. Sure he's doing this for political gain, mostly in Quebec I guess. But what about the message it sends our NATO allies and our enemies ? I don't think Harper will make this a confidence vote. But instead will use it against Dion in an election campaign when the time comes.

oh..that's right Markus, your own govt is seen by you and all the neo -Marxists as more of an evil than an actual group of people who actually burn down schools, actually murder their own people and actually kill our soldiers...
right..how perceptive of you comrade..

Don't blame someone like Markus for not thinking this through... The Liberal Party leaders obviously haven't either.
If they had they'd have suggested we request our troups be re-deployment and that we approach Nato for that instead... In fact, we are in the most active area because the former Liberal Gov't that committed our troups sat on there collective @$$e$ while duty's were being assigned and didn't commit until only the most dangerous area was let to select.
I'm not suggesting our fighting men and women aren't brave or up to the task...they're in fact getting the job done... but maybe it's time for a re-deployment of NATO forces and for our brave men and women to be sent to an area less active then where they are today once they complete the task they were assigned initially.
Just a thought
