Toyota gets a "Get out of Jail Free" card

Chrysler recalls 35,000 Dodge Calibers for "sticky gas pedals". And guess what... pedals were manufactured by CTS Corp. in Elkhart, Indiana... the same plant as defective Toyota parts. (though Chrysler execs stress to point out that they are a completely different design)

That's what you call a corporate "Get out of Jail Free" card. While some may say Toyota still bears some responsiblity for not coming forward with complaints sooner, it certainly helps their case, in that they can legitimately claim that the defective parts were ultimately not their issue.

The defect in Toyota's isn't the issue, it's the cover-up dating back to 2007, which has been allegedly documented. Also, there have been in the area of 90 documented deaths as a result of the issue. Combine that with the fact Toyota blamed the problem on faulty floor mats, even though they were aware many of the vehicles in question never had floor mats.

Trying to pass the problem off to the supplier is bogus. Parts built by the suppliers is done according to the manufacturers specs, design, and tolerances in quality control. Toyota acknowledges itself that it's "fix" for the defect won't work on many of the recalled vehicles.
